Title says it all really. Used to suffer with heavy and painful periods until DD was born and then they seemed to be just 'normal' (whatever that means!) Have come on this week and am bleeding really heavily. No pain. I should go to doctor but just wondered if anyone knows reason why other than the awful stuff I've been reading about on-line. Who needs the internet when paranoid enough??
BTW, did have pre-cancerous cells removed a few years back and scared connected to that :oS

are you sure it is period? ie are you due on? any chance you could be pg? or it could be your age? in early/mid 40's peri menopausal symptoms are/can be really erratic periods. try not to worry, sure it is nothing serious, could go to see dr/gyni for a check up if you want your mind calmed

Best to get it checked out, i went to the GP a few weeks ago for the same reason, i was due a smear anyway so they took several swobs at the same time, smear was claer and i have to go back to get other resaults and discus a referral and a scan but GP said it could be a number of things (but probably nothing serious), always best to get these things checked though.

This has been happening to me since I had my second child last year.

I've always bled very heavily so no change there but I'm not having any cramps at all. After ovulation I am getting lots of cramps and aches and pains in my lower back and legs but as soon as I come on they go.

Would seek medical advice from the GP.

BTW fibroids can cause heavy bleeding to arise. If GP is uncertain I would ask at that time for a referral to a gynaecologist.

Von willebrands disease, a common inherited bleeding disorder can cause heavy periods. When your womb gets bigger after having children, they can become heavier because there is a larger bleeding surface.

If you have any other symptoms (nosebleeds, easy bruising, bleeding after operations and dental extractions - you may not have all of those) it could be worth asking your gp to refer you for a bleeding time test (people with VWB take longer to clot) and to measure your VWB clotting factor levels.

There are several different types of VWB and 70 per cent have mild type 1. There is treatment available once you are diagnosed (DDAVP and transexamic acid to help clotting) but it isn't well known (but it is quite common, people just don't know they have it) and most GPs haven't heard of it. So it is worth asking about if you think you might have it.
