Anyone recommend a Dr for mole removal?

Its on my face so obviously I want to minimise scarring. I'd really like a recommendation, rather than just finding someone from google.

Thanks.

where do you live?

I had one removed from my face an went to a plastic surgeon at my local private hospital. I was insured.

Your G P ought to be able to suggest.

We are in Manchester. Were you pleased with the results?

yes very. It was on my lipline and you cannot see anything now- not even the tiniest scar. I had 3 stitiches in.

NellieForbush · 28/03/2011 13:47

Whereabouts are you?

I am just north of London.

You might try googling the Skin Clinics they have clinics nationwide.

You must have a few good private hospitals near you- go on to their websites and see if they advertise plastic surgery.

I had mine done in the GP's "minor surgery" clinic at the GP surgery. I think the bloke that did it was a specialist (but to be honest I did not ask!!!) not sure if he was a nurse or a doctor or a technician as the GP booked it and sorted it all out on nhs. He did it under local anaesthetic, sliced off the mole and then cauterised the area. It has left absolutely no scar - you could not tell there was anything there before. It was on my neck rather than on my face though.

My advice is ask your GP first and see what they suggest.

I'm watching this with interest - I went to the GP to ask about it and was told that the NHS won't do cosmetic mole removal.

With it being on the face it's quite nerve racking - I'm a bit worried about scarring being worse than the mole and having to walk around with a plaster on my face for a while! For those that have had them done - how long was it before you felt the wound was healed? Also did anyone comment about you looking different? I've got 2 or 3 that I would love to get rid of but would change my face quite a lot (or it might just be me being very aware of them!)

Bit of a ramble - sorry!

NellieForbush · 28/03/2011 17:52

According to my GP it wont be done on the NHS but she will refer me privately.

The fear of having a worse scar is the thing that has held me back loler. But I'm going to take the plunge now. Just want to be sure I find the right person to do it.

I think I will take the plunge too - it's really effecting my confidence - thought about doing it during summer holidays so I don't have to the school run looking like an accident victim Grin.

The blog lady was really interesting but it was written like an advert so I'm wondering if she had it done free?

NellieForbush · 28/03/2011 18:40

lol! I've been trying to time it to avoid people for as long as possible afterwards!

This place looks really interesting and they have a clinic near me but I don't know anyone whose been there and can't find any reviews on the internet.

I guess bit the bullet and go for a consultation - you'll get a feeling if it's right or not when you're there?

DS1 has just drawn a picture of me while I've been wasting time on MN - "look it's you I've put on all your lines and spots on your face" - think I'll be needing a face lift too! (some of the spots are just spots!)

NellieForbush · 24/05/2011 21:37

loler - are you still here???

Well I did it and would highly recommend taking the plunge. Even though I am only 2 weeks 'post-op' I am delighted with the results and think I will be even more pleased as the mark fades more.

Wish I'd done it sooner. I don't know myself.

I had a large plaster on my face for 1 week and looked a dickhead (and generally avoided going out). Then a tiny one for 5 days. By then it just looked like I'd had a big zit.

Today I put make up on it for the first time and you can hardly see it.

Let me know if you want more details.
