Any ideas for a liver tonic?

I had Hep A a few years ago, and although I've recovered completely, I am now going through a phase where I'm feeling the same as I did when I had the illness. Unusually tired, eyes aren't yellow but definitely not clear and red in the mornings, and just a general 'off' feeling that I remember from that time. I know I'm not ill again, and will see my gp, but wondered if anybody knows of a good recipe for a liver tonic? I think my liver needs a rest! Have not been drinking at all the past two months, and that and following a good diet (no sugar, no wheat, almost no diary) has also helped.
Thanks

I, my DSs, my brother and niece all have an inherited disorder called ' Gilberts Synrome'..It is tied in with liver function, and if we drink alcohol, don't eat regularly, become tired or stressed we become ill and very jaundiced.

One of the essential things that really helps our livers' is a herb called 'Milk Thistle' (i have a friend who is a Social worker in Bristol, and it helps many of her clients who have Hep too). It is available in Healthfood shops and Boots, and is best in a tincture form, as a liquid is easier for the body to absorb.

Thank you - I've heard of it and will certainly get some! It must be hard having this disorder, especially having so much healthy living thrust upon you Wink.
I had some alcohol again on Friday night and I was beyond tired yesterday which confirms my 'theory'. My liver is very precious, though, so it's not too much of a sacrifice.

Well my brother and i now only drink on special occasions, which is easy as we're both in our 40's and not particularly into clubbing or pubs anymore ..but my DS1 (22) has Gilberts the worst.. he goes extremely yellow with the slightest thing,it's harder for him as he's a student sharing a house with a bunch of lads...

Interestingly, my brothers original diagnosis was that his liver hadn't recovered after Hep (which he caught it in India 10 years previously) It wasn't until my DS1 was diagnosed with Gilberts, that brothers' GP tested him, and confirmed his symptoms were in fact due to Gilberts too.

Good luck, hoping everything clicks back to some normality soon Smile
