Diabetes?

I've always been overweight, and always been fairly active, but since I had my gall bladder removed last year, I have had a few worrying symptoms. I have been putting on weight (a pound a week or so) over the last month, but the weight seems to have been going just around the stomach area. Not excessively thirsty, but going for a wee just once in the middle of the night. Oten have a headache on waking, which is soon remedied by intake of fluid, so I'm guessing it's a dehydration linked thing.
I thought maybe Diabetes, but don't you lose weight with that?
I have tried eating more healthily, and walking a bit more, but the weight isn't going.

no you don't lose weight with diabetes, certainly not initially. You may be getting insulin resistant, which is a precursor to type II diabetes. The easiest way to check is to go to the GP and get them to do some blood and urine tests on you.
As you have probably realised, weight around the middle is the least healthy place for it to settle and has a correlation with heart disease, type II diabetes and other conditions linked to obesity.

So go to the GP first - but continue with eating more healthily (go low sugar), consider looking at a lower GI diet (glycaemic index; or low glycaemic load is even better) and definitely increase the exercise. If you drink alcohol, reduce that. Because you have no gallbladder now, have you already changed your diet to accommodate that? Do you routinely eat low fat/no fat foods? because many of them are high GI/high carbohydrate. Better to go as natural as you can.

Thanks Thumbwitch. I'm going to go to the doctors next week.
I wasn't given any diet advice following the gall bladder removal. And didn't change mt diet drastically. It was the first gall attack I'd had, was whipped in as an emergency, and it was taken out within 2 days, so I was lucky, as I know people who wait ages for an op.
Too much internet is a bad thing. I have also been looking at thyroid problems/symptoms and a lot in that ring true. I don't really drink much; a couple of units a week, and have tried increasing excercise, walking more to work etc,but it makes me very achey.
You're right - GP is the answer, It's just kind of scary wondering what they are going to say.
Thank you for taking the time to post, I appreciate it.
