Palpitations. What causes them? Anyone else get them?

Just had another attack of palpations which I find quite scary.
I was exercising at the time and came over feeling dizzy. Lasted for over 5 minutes.
I've not had them for ages and I have been exercising regulary since Christmas .
Any ideas? Smile

Mine are caused by low blood pressure.

Worth getting checked out, not cos it's dangerous, but because it can be sorted out. DH has atrial fibrillation, it does no physical harm but it is frightening and a long attack tires him out for a few days. It's now well managed with medication (took a bit of figuring out the right mix) and in the words of his consultant "not something that knocks a person off their perch" :)

It's not connected to heart disease or anything sinister like that - it's an electrical misfiring that most people get from time to time, just in some people it sticks around - a bit like hiccups.

i have them and also low blood pressure, probably linked then

Mine have always been linked with anaemia, if you tend to get breathless too then it could be that. Worth having your iron levels and HB checked to be sure, as anaemia is easily fixed, although I'd recommend something more gentle like Spatone instead of the yukky iron tabs you'll get given. They make your poo black. Yes, I know, gross.
Keep us posted :)

I had a problem with anaemia during all 3 of my pregnancys.
I never thought of it. I'll get it checked out. Thanks Smile

I gte them...very scary. I've ended up in A&E a few times. Nothing to worry about, but you could pass out and if they happen for prolonged periods it does put a stress on your heart....go and get checked out
