My dd (almost 2) has them often and they eventually go, she is so used to them that she actually tells me when she has them (as if I can't hear!) I wouldn't worry about them to be honest.

I used to get just the same when I was little and the only thing that helped was;

  1. Breathing in and out (nose and mouth covered) of a paper (not plastic, please!!!!) bag for a while.

  2. Being really suddenly and sharply distracted. Done properly, this is the one that really seems to be effective. The other day my friend had really bad hiccups and we were just talking when I slapped her on the back of the head (not hard). She was really confused and thought I was really weird, but then realised her hiccups had suddenly disappeared!!

HTH (probably doesn't)!

My newly born DS hiccups nearly every day and it is so loud, normally takes a while for them to disappear, don't know what causes it.
