due to several funny turns consultant thinks it is this and has sent him for brain scans.

Don't pre-empt the diagnosis. He needs to be assessed first. The doctor will be looking at epilepsy and also any neurological conditions which could be causing it. he may well not have any of these.

I got epilepsy (no underlying cause) in early adulthood. It has been hard at times. The hardest things are/have been:

not able to to drive unless seizures controlled
other peoples' views on epilepsy esp media portrayals
medication side-effects (males have more options because some popular meds aren't good in pregnancy)
having to give up alcohol (doesn't apply to everyone)

However it is something you get used to. In terms of how life is, it is normal for me, and hasn't stopped me doing anything I want to. I have travelled widely/off the beaten track and am about to become a mother. so life is normal, and good.

Fingers crossed for your friend that it turns out to be something more straighforward.

99.9% sure it is as tests and several trips to the hosp have been going on for 1 year.

Frist they tested kidney's then heart and now this...consultant knew straight away what it was etc...

HAs been told not to drive not having balck outs but strange as you described seizures

I don't think blackouts are a diagnostic term. Just a description of loss of consciousness without defining the cause.

Epilepsy is a tendency to recurrent seizures. If your friend is diagnosed then this will be what he has been having.

sorry to hear it is looking likely. Most people do get control of seizures with medication fairly quickly though. I imagine he may feel releived to have a diagnosis after all this.

The Epilepsy UK site is a good source of info.

I was diagnosed with epilepsy at about 11. I have to take medication to control it but as long as I do take it Blush it's fully under control. I can drive and carry on a normal life.
