When is the best age to have the single measles jab. DH says he's read that it shouldn't be given before 15 month but I can't find this information anywhere.

I think we had our twins' measles jab at about 14/15 months iirc. It was around the age children have the MMR, which is around 15 mths -but we wanted single jabs done instead.

i was told by our immunologist that any measles jab, MMR or single, should be given at between 15 and 18 months for it to be most protective and effective. Something to do with mother's antibodies not interfering by that age. I don't know why then the gps start urging us to get it done at 12 months - it is actually less effective then.

on the subject of interferance from mum's Ab's - is it OK if you are still BF?

tatt · 26/10/2005 12:12

why bother with singles? Unless you have a family history of auto immune problems/ autism/ or a child with gut problems it now seems to be accepted thiomersil was the problem. That was never in the MMR and has been removed from the 5 in 1.

Tatt - Because that's our decision and not what this thread is about, so sorry i'm not entering into debate about it.

Others - thank you for your help.

Ok - just wanted to be sure you knew that the latest information from the anti-MMR campaigners was suggesting there isn't a problem except for a small number of people. If I've understood it properly 3 years has been suggested by those campaigners as an age at which there is no risk to anyone but you may not want to wait that long.

We've just had DD2's done at 14 months.
That was the recomended age here.

Think MMr is done at 12 months.

I'm sure I read 15 months too. DD had hers at about 18 months and has just had rubella a year later. We went to The Holborn Medical Centre which you can Google as I might have read the 15mos info there, even if its not where you would actually go.
