hub2dee - am soooo regretting using the mercola link! The Skeptic is much better (ty) and does give clearer information (though I do feel professionally bound to add that no holistic/natural/complementary therapist I know "claims to cure" as indicated in the website against most therapies) Am off to take pg brain "of limited function at the mo" for some fresh air.

The Mercola site is well known for quackery. This site has had the US Food and Drug Administration onto him for claims made on various products.

One thing mercola has right - he's really good at getting well-listed on google. So much so, that I find whenever someone here is posting a link that purports to have scientific evidence for something dubious, it's almost always mercola. Gr.

Oh, it was the skeptics dictionnary I found when looking into that aura photography thing. Nice site. Very useful.

The increase in obesity is to do with the massive increase in processed food in the diet. Iris, I can see how you link processed and microwaved foods in one sense, because there's a shedload of "ready for the microwave" processed stuff available.

But, I agree with Q of Q, a microwave is great for quickly steaming veggies instead of boiling the bum out of them . If I try to steam them on the hob, I always boil the pan dry .

Increases in obesity also heavily due to sedentary lifestyle, including huge increases in car ownership and decrease in manual labour jobs.

You can cook "ready meals" in a conventional oven, too; or you can get them from your corner take-away. The microwave is only an easy-to-use oven, at the end of the day, not to blame for most of society's ills, honestly!!

Yes - agree fz!

My Mum was a steak & kidney pud/jam roly poly/treacle sponge/dumplings kind of cook, but we were all like beanpoles as kids because we were so active, plus Dad was in a heavy manual job (HGV mechanic) so we just burnt all the calories off!
