Last 24hrs I have been losing voice.

Am pregnant so can only take halls soothers.

Nothing much you can do except lots of liquids - warm water with lemon and honey maybe. Turmeric is meant to be good for soothing sore throats too, so you could have a curry - although I must admit that when I was pregnant there was no way I could have managed curry!

Don't speak unless you really have to, resting it is really the best thing you can do to get it back. Don't drink anything that is too cold, and hot water with some fresh lemon squeezed in and a good dollop of honey is a lovely soother.

warm blackcurrant really helps, but the others are right, dont' speak unless absolutely needed, rest is what you need for it to get better. If its no better in a couple of days, ask the dr for a codeine linctus (it is safe in pregnancy)

Dissolve a couple of teaspoons of salt in hot water. Gargle with this as often as you can bear to. Utterly vile but effective.

Mine lasted for about three days where I had no voice whatsoever and then it (slowly) started to improve.

ICanPluck · 20/03/2011 21:51

If it is getting worse, definitely go to the doctors, there must be something they can give you if it's really unmanageable with no medication.

onadietcokebreak · 20/03/2011 21:53

Thank you. It is getting worse,

Suppose to be returning to uni tomorrow. Dreading the room. Dry heat pumping out. Going to kill me

and important thing is not to force yourself to speak or even whisper as apparently it can damage the vocal cords

also, see advice I got when my ds lost his voice recently here

onadietcokebreak · 20/03/2011 22:12

Thank you that is so useful. Voice is back but hoarse.

Must rest it.

Just to share my experience....

I had a cough (especially at night) from mid to the last 4 weeks of pregnancy. It came on gradually and meant that at it's height, I had to sleep propped up in the bed.

Then, I mentioned to the cardiologist who (during pregnancy) has prescribed me anti-hypertensives (for high blood pressure) and he immediately made the connection between these tablets and the uncommon side effect of asthma-like symptoms. Stopped the tablets and stopped the cough. Immediately.

Just a thought.
