Flatulence problems, lactose intolerance?

Name changed obviously for this embarrassing problem.

I am a very flatulent person. A bit of background though. I think it is currently worse at the moment as I am having pelvic floor issues post the birth of DC2 6 months ago. I am having difficulty controlling myself and find myself pooing very frequently. I saw the dr before Christmas after an incident where I couldn't get to to toilet in time and she said she was going to refer me to a physio, though I have heard nothing since and need to chase it up.

However, while things are exacerbated at the moment I have always had a frequent flatulence, I also have very regular bowel movements. I always put this down to my love of sultana bran. But after some conversations with acquaintances yesterday I am wondering if I may actually have a lactose intolerance.

Presumably the way to test this for myself is to cut out milk products (though I understand butter and often yoghurt don't necessarily have the same effect). I do have a real love for cereal though and it is my go to snack of choice (though after lurking on a thread talking about a low carb diet I am starting to rethink that).

I'm just wondering if anyone has any advice as to what is normal, how I can see (without going to the GP - I seem to spend my life there at the moment with post pregnancy and two young kids who have recently had chicken pox), and where to go. I'm really not keen to cut out milk as I love it and I have read that you can take a lactase enzyme which can help you digest lactose a bit better.

I was very concious of this when I had my cereal this morning and within a short time was farting and needed the loo and now my stomach feels quite heavy, which I had always attributed to the bran flakes that I usually have.

Any advice or am I making something out of nothing?

Oh and if I don't come back straight away it's because I am balancing my namechange!

I have weaned myself off cereals after my ds had to go gluten free, best decision we have ever made and we now have cooked breakfast.

I also think that we have been brainwashed into eating wheat/cereals v frequently as I found out a very hard way that they are actually not healthy at all. The so-called slow releasing carbs feed the yeast in the gut, certainly in case of my family.
I also found via my ds that wheat/gluten overload leads to poor absorption of other nutrients and often cause dairy intolerance.
