My DS has a verucca on his foot which he has had for many many months now that we cannot get rid of.

It is currently bigger than the end of a pencil and despite trying Bazuka a billion times and several tries with silver nitrate pencils it shows no sign of getting any smaller. My DS is ridiculously woosy and will not let me do anything to it other than apply these treatments (i.e. wont let me file it down properly etc.) and it certainly doesn't seem to have any intention of dying of it's own accord. The chemist told us not to bother with the freezing off over the counter products as they 'never work'. So I have two questions;

  1. What else can I try?
  1. He has permanantly sweaty feet (genetic thing I think as GP and uncle have the same), could the fact that his foot is constantly 'wet' be encouraging the verucca to keep growing?

Other than chopping off his foot, I don't know what else to do .

Please report back with progress! Grin

I had one for about 3 years. For about 6 months I filed and used bazooka, and I was very vicious with myself. Eventually I got cheesed of though and the Bazooka was used just as a cover to stop t spreading.
After about 3 years I bought some of the Wartner freeze stuff from the chemists and it went within a couple of treatments.

See, different things work for different people.

Right, filing first, if that doesn't work then Wartners and if that doesn't work then foot amputation doctors.

There is nothing that will get rid of a verucca except your immune system. Anything that claims to get rid of them is simply attempting to provoke your immune system by damaging the area around the verucca. Sometimes this is successful but mostly it isn't and you just have to wait until your body gets rid of it.

Sweaty feet don't affect veruccas.

There is nothing that will get rid of a verucca except your immune systemand a emery board and a clean pair of tweezers Wink

valiumredhead · 21/03/2011 17:25

Oh bloody strikeouts!

ScaredOfCows · 21/03/2011 17:26

Have you tried apple cider vinegar - try googling it. Ideally, you should put a small piece of cotton wool soaked in it over the verucca and fasten with tape of some kind - whatever sticks. But, if his foot wont hold on to tape, some sites say just to wipe the vinegar on with cotton wool and repeat once or twice a day.
I have had a verucca for around 8 years, been using this method for about 2 months now and it has almost gone. You will read, if you google it, that it can be painful. It hasn't hurt me at all, can't even feel it.

TheSmallPrint · 21/03/2011 18:58

8 years?????

Nocake, googling suggests that sweaty feet do affect it.

break a dandelion stem in half and put the white stuff on the verucca. This got rid of my daughters in 8 days (2 applications) whereas bazooka and boots own stuff didn't touch it for 6 months. It is a pearl of wisdom from my Aunty Blod.

valiumredhead · 22/03/2011 14:19

I can imagine that working bogle as that white milk stuff reeks!

TheSmallPrint · 23/03/2011 11:34

Quick update. Second day of filing yesterday and all hell broke loose again, DH wasn't in so couldn't manage it on my own as don't have enough arms and legs to pin him down and file.

Give him chocolate to eat while you are doing it? I have no problems with bribery Wink

TheSmallPrint · 23/03/2011 13:37

I let him have his DS which is a rare treat during the week, I have no problems with bribery either, I'm obviously not coughing up enough though!

valiumredhead · 23/03/2011 14:20

Ok, this is how is would go in this house -

"You have a choice ( FIRM voice Wink) this needs to be done, so you can either let me do it while you eat chocolate and play on your DS OR I am making an appt for the GP first thing tomorrow. ANY mucking around and I will ring DO YOU UNDERSTAND?"

I do realise I am pretty hard core though Wink

valiumredhead · 23/03/2011 14:21

Fucks sake - bold went wrong there but you get the gist Grin

TheSmallPrint · 23/03/2011 14:29

Hahahahhaaha I think you are me. That is exactly what I said to him and his dad said the same this morning . DH left saying he was ringing the dr on the way to work. Still won't let me touch it. And threatened the dr too!!

So what's the next step????

OP posts:
TheSmallPrint · 23/03/2011 14:30

I guess ring the dr!

Stop wasting your money and go to the gp. Nip it in the bud so to speak, they do spread and are very stubborn. The silver nitrate wand treatment is painless and so so quick. Your DS will be fascinated as it is stored in dry ice and you get that cloud effect. I had clusters of them on both feet as a young adult, no one else in the family was affected, I tried treating them for ages and paring them, horrid time. They were really uncomfortable. In the end I was referred as an outpatient for a one off appointment, end of problem and they have never come back.

valiumredhead · 23/03/2011 14:38

Lots of surgeries don't treat them though - you might have to go to a chiropodist.

TheSmallPrint · 23/03/2011 14:39

I might just call the docs and see what they say.....

thomasbodley · 23/03/2011 14:53

I've had warts and verrucae as both a child and an adult so I'm not sure I believe the "immune system" line. I've had plenty of time to develop antibodies!

Even if your GP doesn't deal with it, a chiropodist will. Some GPs will refer you to a wart clinic held by your local hospital. They freeze them off with a liquid nitrogen wand, but the latest treatment is zapping them with a laser.

TheSmallPrint · 23/03/2011 15:17

Right. Dr appointment at 4.40. DS just cried and wailed when I told him and has threatened to kick the doctor if he touches his foot. Oh dear.

Is it wrong to look forward to your update after the appt TSP? Wink

I suspect it may be disappointing but I hope not
