Love my Mooncup, but my flow has got very heavy recently. Like filling and leaking in a hour or less.

I've noticed my Mooncup is 15mm whereas the Femmecup is 30mm. Any one used one and found it good, or can someone recommend a good cup for my really heavy days?

I haven't, but I'm a heavy flooder too so I'd be interested if you have any good results with it! Love my Mooncup too, but it does start defeating the purpose when I have to use additional protection for at least 2 days Angry

Watching with interest as I am a heavy bleeder with a mooncup on order as I thought it would improve on my

ugh there is even a red blob on the thread now!

Honeydragon · 17/03/2011 22:11

niggle, I changed to a cup from tampons years ago as tampons last under an hour, so hopefully you'll see real improvement Smile

lol purveyor I'm with you on that one.

I had to stop using my mooncup because my bleeding was just soooo heavy and had to wear towels in addition to the mooncup. I also got fed up with looking like i had just massacred someone at every change

So sorry I can't answer your query OP but will watch with interest as I'd like to know the answer too Wink Grin

"I had to stop using my mooncup because my bleeding was just soooo heavy and had to wear towels in addition to the mooncup."

Does that mean you find something that works better than a mooncup? Confused

I have to double up the first days of my period with a mooncup but it's still an improvement on anything else.

I don't think I'd get on with a bigger cup, as cervix is really low during period and I already find the mooncup presses on bladder.

(and mooncup up to the top holds around 25ml, the official measurment is just to the holes but mine will fill higher than that without leaking)

Celestialstarlight · 18/03/2011 15:31

Tyler Yes. Tampons. I might have to change them more often than I'd like to but for me it's a much cleaner process and like I said in my post, I don't look as though i have just massacred someone. You see?

No need for confusion...Just personal opinion.

tyler80 · 18/03/2011 15:36

Ok, makes sense. It's just the way it was worded I presumed that you had to wear towels in addition to the mooncup but not with another sort of protection.

Honeydragon · 18/03/2011 20:20

I spoke to Cathy at Mooncup who is lovely btw, it's all much of a muchness and I will still loyal to the mooncup. however I've heard the MeLuna is good for heavy flow, so I'll try that next month if I don't hear anything else. I don't mind using towels (have washable as my fanjo dislikes bleach Grin )with the cup, I'd just like something that can get me and extra half hour to an hour.

Then report back if the news is good Grin

dd (15 m) on the other hand is so used to watching me change that she swiped my (thankfully clean) cup of the sink today when I was climbing out the shower and started trying to shove it between my thighs! Blush Hmm Grin

I have super heavy flow - going by what you've said mine is actually heavier than yours. I've not used the Femmecup - have used Mooncup, Divacup, Lunette, Ladycup and MeLuna - I personally prefer my (large) Ladycup, it works fine for me.

What I would say is not to just go for larger capacity - I went for the largest sized MeLuna and found it was no good for me, it was too firm so I couldn't get the suction needed. Always figure out what would work best for your body and go from there on picking capacity - community.livejournal.com/menstrual_cups/1285963.html - also of course try asking this question on the Menstrual cup support community for more advice from other cup users.

You could always try the Femmecup (who are currently doing BOGOF deal FYI) and sell it on Menstrual Cup Sales -community.livejournal.com/mc_sales if not working out for you. Or hell I've got a large unused MeLuna spare you could try.

Obviously any cup you wear you'd still go longer than with a tampon, you can wear overnight which can't be done with tampons, and cups may lessen flow in comparison to tampons. Whatever it's still going to be better than tampons or pads.

If heavy flow is that much of a problem for you, how about lessening your flow? Tranexamic acid from your doctor is the best way to lessen flow. Home methods include drinking coffee (a vasoconstrictor so constricts blood vessels in the uterus preventing heavy blood loss), taking herbal supplements to regulate hormones (chaste tree tincture is best) and dietary changes or vitamins; iron, magnesium, zinc and calcium for menstrual health, vitamin E to regulate flow, kelp tablets to revitalize the endocrine system, and vitamins A and C to regulate estrogen levels.

Wow Thankyou kasha, I didn't even consider trying to reduce flow as this is a very recent change for me will have a look at the suggested links today as well Smile
