Mortified & feel fed up: pelvic floor appears to have disintegrated (tmi?)

Sad Blush

after two dcs (both vag. births) my pelvic floor was a bit rubbish, sneezing, that sort of thing meant there could be a b it of wee Blush

i was the typical poster that you see in the doctors.. 'Do you have accidents when sneezing., coughing, jumping on a trampoline... (?!)'

Anyway, this week after havinga crap chest (dcs have chest infecxtions) and having a huge, horrendous hacking cough, my pelvic floor appears to have gone.. I have had to wear sanitary towels the past couple of days becuase I have been coughing so hard it has been more or less just like having a normal wee.. in bed i had a coughing fit and the bed was wet Sad

I feel really really rubbish. Des anyone know if it is worth seeing the gp, or have you done pelvic floor exercises at home and have they worked? I can't carry on like this, its horrible.

I feel your pain. I have a very weak pelvic floor and it's now an automatic thing to cross my legs when I sneeze, cough, etc. It hasn't got as extreme as you describe but I'm considering going to the doctor about it. I really think you should go as it's affecting your life. Where I live (in France) they offer some form of treatment after you've had a vag birth (I had cs so it wasn't offered) so treatments do exist. Good luck. x

The GP can refer you to a continence person, a nurse or women's health physio. They can assess your pelvic floor and give you exercises to strengthen it. Also if it's just too weak for the exercises, they have a machine which can stimulate contractions until it is strong enough to be able to contract it yourself.

Don't put up with it! Good luck and I hope your cough is gone soon :)

Go see your GP. Definately worth it - I wouldn't say this is "normal". Loads of us have the odd issue re trampolining etc but not to the extent you describe. There will be help out there - try not to be too embarrassed; they'll have seen it all before and it's their job.

I have done all the exercises and stuff with a pelvic toner, also only had one DC and that was 14 years ago, but I still have this problem... not with jumping on a trampoline mind but with a heavy cough or sneeze. It might not be your muscles, but there are other things they can do. Only way to tell is a visit to the GP, it's a very common problem and they will help you

Hi everyone, thanks for all the replies. Haven't seen the gp for myself recently, and after childbirth have only been about post birth piles and a lump in my bob (blocked / swollen lymph node) so after baring my arse and boobs think it's high time i treated them to my fanjo! Grin

i will see if they offer anything through docs like you suggest, everythingchanges....
