Optical Express
Yes
More than £245 per eye or whatever the advert says! Close to £2500
Yes yes and yes. Which I'd had it done years ago - although I didn't trust it all years ago so Confused

There's a lot of info here www.lasereyeforum.com/

And if you decide to go with them PM me for a voucher Grin

cleoismycat · 16/03/2011 13:09

One other thing to consider is clinic location. You'll have to have check ups at 24 hours, 1 week then 3, 6 & 12 months after. So somewhere nearby or easy to get to (by public transport for the 24 hour after op appointment)

GColdtimer · 17/03/2011 12:14

Thanks for that. There is actually an optical express a few miles away so am going to make an appointment.

Best thing I ever had done! Totally changed my life for the better. Was expensive as picked one of the best places to go - London vision clinic. £3500. Peace of mind that the surgeon had performed many operations and has been into eye surgery for a long time so knows his stuff.
Pick your surgeon carefully - I know of someone who went and ha it done v cheaply - ended up having two different surgeons for each eye. Major mess up with one eye, still having big problems 6 months on :(

heartspain · 17/03/2011 13:20

I echo what Marzipanlover said. Dr Dan Reinstein at the London Vision Clinic achieves fantastic results.
There is lots of information on their website including a video of Phillip Schofield having his surgery.

I am loving my 20/12 vision one year on.

I am hoping to have it done in a few months time.

Done quite a bit of research already and there was another thread recently about it with a lot of good info on.

TBH it doesn't matter which of the providers you go for. They all seem to use the same clinics anyway.

I am going for the LASIK (LASEK) Wavefront Corrected treatment which is pricey at £4650 for the two eyes. It involves no knife and pretty much delivers perfect vision by correcting even small imperfections in the eye.

I am short sighted with no astigmatism and my prescription has been stable for years but struggled recently to see well with varifocal glasses.

I have a friend who had the same treatment and he is incredibly happy. He strongly recommends it although being over 45 like me he as had his eyes set at long sight for driving and still has to wear reading glasses as older people simply dont have the focal capacity in the lens to accomodate enough both have both long and short sight.

BeenBeta · 17/03/2011 13:34

My friend had it done here at Ultralase in Guilford.

rabbitstew · 17/03/2011 13:54

Agree - check what equipment they use (there have been advances in technology in the recent past), what surgeon you'll be getting, who does the initial checks and assessments and answers your questions prior to surgery (no point having a good surgeon if you had a cheap and cheerful check-up of your suitability to go ahead with the procedure prior to this). Also check what you are actually paying for - some clinics charge extra for certain things (eg retreatments or check-ups outside normal check-up periods), whereas others pretty much charge the same for everyone for a particular type of operation and all aftercare for a set period. Also, there isn't just one type of laser eye surgery - there's lasik, intralasik, lasek, PRK etc, and there are choices within choices (eg aspheric, wavefront, tissue saving etc, etc) which cost varying amounts, so you'd want someone expert to advise you which is best for you and why.

I had mine done at Centre for Sight by Mr Daya. Was not cheap - £4,500 - but most definitely worth it. You couldn't get better for the level of care and expertise, even if you could get as good, imo (eg always seen by the surgeon at every appointment, always willing to answer all my questions patiently, in the required detail, however numerous, no pushing for me to have the operation or decide quickly). I was more than a little bit of a paranoid patient and don't think I would have gone through with it at all anywhere else.

bettybattleaxe · 19/03/2011 19:18

I've had an Ultralase appt to see if suitable and then decided against it after knowing of two people who had problems with a)dry eyes and b)corrective procedure needed for some unknown reason at that particular clinic. I realise that dry eyes a common complaint and completely co-incidental about the two events but it put me off.

I then decided to take the plunge and go to Moorfields after a personal recommendation from an eye surgeon working there (my second choice was Dan Reinstein). Moorfields was about £3500 at the time.

Had to cancel as discovered I was pregnant, once I'd stopped BFing I was pregnant again. Now I'm wondering whether I'm too old to get the most out of it.

I were prescription goggles for swimming but would look a bit of a dick when with DCs IYSWIMSmile

GColdtimer · 22/03/2011 18:55

Thank you everyone. Loads of things to think about that I didn't realise I needed to think about so thank you!
