I have always suffered with PMS and have just put up with it to be honest but I am reaching the end of my tether (as are my poor family Sad).
I have terrible mood swings sometimes I am very low and weepy, other times extremely irritable. (Sometimes I feel all of the above all at once). My energy levels are non existent , in fact I at times feel like the first few weeks of pregnancy exhausted. I can have period type pain for days before my period starts. The latest addition to the symptom list is tender breasts , they are painful to the point where anything faster than a brisk walk is agony Grin. All these symptoms can last for anything up to 10 days running into my period, but weirdly the worse my PMS symptoms are the lighter and less painful my period is Hmm.
Anyway please can anyone suggest anything conventional or otherwise to help. I feel like this is taking over my life.

I will be watching with interest. I have all the symptoms you describe plus a bout of paranoia/worry which lasts 2 days and anxiety which can last 4 or 5 days. It is pure hell. I also can't stop eating for the first 2/3 days!!

Glad it's not just me then. The only thing my GP can suggest is a mirena coil but I am keen to explore all the options.

Mine didn't suggest that to me, i just came out with a load of print-outs on PMS and basically got told it is just one of those things and i may have to put up with it!

I just started cerazette for it and it has really helped, although some people say it makes them worse

Also, fluoxetine helps

Hi ladies well, I have been suffering with severe pms for about 6 years now. I saw a gp last year who was very unhelpful, said it was juat one of those things. But the past 12 months has been hell so last month I saw a different gp, she was very understanding. We talked about the pill, which I have tried before (made my symptoms worse) and she didn't seem to think that the coil would help either. She has perscribed me sertraline an SSRI, I was a bit worried at first about taking an anti-depressant but I really couldn't take anymore. I have been on the meds for 2 weeks now, the first week was awful felt sick all the time but I am starting to feel a bit better now. The real test will be next week when my pms symptoms are due to start. I will let u all know how I get on.
Also visit the naps website www.pms.org.uk which is full of info regarding pms.

Hi Hobnob, well thought I'd give u an update I have been on Sertraline for one month now and at the moment I am fine, I am due on in the next week but am having no symptoms of pms so far :). I saw my gp on friday and she has also perscribed Tranexamic acid to help with my heavy painful periods. For once I cant wait for my period to see wether the treatment is working, althought the gp did say not to feel disapointed if I do suffer this month as sometimes the tablets can take upto 6 weeks to work.
How are you doing hobnob? Have you been to visit your gp?
