My Breast is really sore - should I worry?

Recently I've become more and more aware that my left breast is very sore. It's kind of all down the left side and starts in my armpit. I can feel no lumps (although previously had a benign lump removed from a similar area but over 13 years ago). I wonder whether or not it is because I pick Dd up on that side and she is a heavy wotsit or if it could be something more serious?
I've phoned the doctor but can't get an appointment till next week. has anyone else had this?

Are you bfing?

jabberwitchy · 24/10/2005 20:26

I don't know dm, haven't had this, but I think you are doing the right thing getting it checked out.

I have found, in the past, that pain in this area can come from inter-costal muscles (in between the ribs) which are very easy to sprain, very painful and can take ages to heal. If it is this, there'll probably be pain when you breath in.

Nope SM, have bottle fed from almost the beginning - but it almost does feel like when my milk was dryign up now you come to mention it.

Tried breathing in but no pain, it's also kind of under my armpit - like when your glands swell up. I'm only panicking because I remember someone once telling me breast tissue went this high up - I had no idea . I'm now checking my poor old boobs so regularly that is becoming hard to tell if it's the original soreness I'm feeling or a new one because I'm poking them every five minutes.

Same here. Mine are like cauliflower underneath the skin. It would be hard to distinguish anything unusual.

This is probably completely irrelevant and unhelpful but ... did you know that once you've lactated you can lactate again if someone (or presumably a pump) sucks long enough.

I'm not necessarily suggesting you do this but I find myself wondering how 'active' the milk processing equipment remains even when not in use.

Now that is really interesting because Dd has taken to sort of trying to breast feed through my tops of late (never for very long and the little wotsit was never this interested when she needed to be!!) but wonder if that is enough to stir old memories? Hmmmm strange.

The Breastfeeding Network might be able to throw more light on this.

hiya,
i've had a few cysts removed over the last couple of years (mum had breast cancer in both but, thankfully, is absolutely well) cause of mum, i'm always REALLY scared if i find anything and end up doing exactly the same as you and make myself really sore by prodding and poking around...one thing my consultant has always said though is that you should worry less if your lumps are sore as it can often mean that they're not sinister.

dizzymama · 24/10/2005 22:54

Thank you billiejoe, i remember the panic when I found the first lump, it was not painful at all (and thankfully also not sinister) I'd never have known unless I checked. I'm very much hoping this is just a pulled muscle orstrain of some kind. Fingers crossed eh? Good to hear both you and Mum are fine
