random bruising, I have got the fear

I am absolutely crapping it and wondered if anyone else had any experience of this.

A couple of days ago DH noticed some bruises to my thigh. There were lots - about 8 and all were quite small as though someone had dug their fingers into me very very hard (which they haven't). I racked my brains but couldn't think how they got there. Today I have more bruising in my inner thigh on my other leg. As it's my inner thigh it's even less likely that I have banged without realising.

I was tired last week, so have put two and two together and made five.

I went to the Doctor this morning and she sent me for blood tests which I should get back early next week but until then I just feel sick with worry. She was reassuring and told me she didn't think it was the thing I was fearing but of course they must rule it out.

I have a tendancy to worry about things like this but since having DCs (4 & 5) had managed to get a grip but today I feel absolutely petrified and can't even speak to anyone today.

Has anyone else had unexplained bruising that was explained away but something fairly innocuous?

My mums got the platelet thingy thrombosomething or other, she brusies massivley.
Her count should be 100 and something hers is 52.

jubilee10 · 19/03/2011 17:21

It could will be a "platelet thingy" (thrombocytopenia) - easily treated - but if your levels were very low I would have thought the labs would have alerted your dr and you would have been contacted. I work in haematology and the amount of bruising you are talking about does not suggest very low levels. It is most likely not to be serious.

sorry "could well" not will

SummerRain · 19/03/2011 17:27

My friend has low platelets and bruises extremely easily. Her condition has other risks but she's a healthy and fit woman and it doesn't seem to bother her at all.

Another thank you for the reassurances. Jubilee an extra thank you. Reassurance from anyone who wears a white coat for a living counts as double :o

I am refusing to get undressed now because I don't want to 'notice' more bruises. I managed to show pretty much blind earlier. Roll on Monday, I just want to know now.

waiting here too

Bloods came back fine from dr (slightly low iron levels) but generally she seemed unconcerned. She was quite sympathetic to my worry though and said to come back if i'm feeling really bothered by it.

Hope you've heard back and all is well

slinkyboo · 21/03/2011 19:16

Good news Connor.

Slightly???

lisad123isasnuttyasaboxoffrogs · 22/03/2011 07:37

That's good news Connor.
Any news on slightly?

SlightlyJaded · 22/03/2011 09:43

Hello all and thanks for checking in on me.

So of course you were all right and it doesn't seem to be anything too serious :)

Have to do a bit more investigating but the thing I was worried about is not the problem.

Thank you lovely MNers for taking the time to reassure. Mumsnet has saved my sanity. Again.

Connor. So glad your tests were fine. Perhaps we can toast with a Wine together Grin

If it's ITP I've had it for 16 years, and don't have meds for it. I bruise easily and get tired and a pinprick rash when my platelets are low, but it's liveable with.

Hi there
I know this post is years old but I'm suffering the exact same thing right now. Could you tell me the outcome please? And the cause?
