About a year to 18 months ago dh had a lot of bleeding when going to the toilet for a poo and I mean a lot.
I made him go to the doctors who did a rectal exam, and blood tests and every thing seemed fine and the bleeding seemed to stop.
He has just come to me and asked what i thought of the toilet after he'd been (nice) and i was shocked, it was absolutely covered in bright red blood splattered etc (sorry) and he said he had hardly pooed.
What could it be? he wont go to a&e is in no pain, he doesnt smoke or drink.
He had back pain for weeks during february and i made him go to a&e one night and after an xray it turns out he has a cracked rib but that seemed to be a lot better latterly, could the bleeding be connected to this?
I know what hes like, its going to take me ages to persuade him to go to the doctors about this.
Any advice?

Red blood in the toilet implies that the bleed is towards the end of his rectal passage. Could he have piles, which have started to bleed? He needs to see the gp, probably give a stool sample so they can check it for blood too.

Piles? They could be internal, hence no sign of them. Otherwise maybe a tear?

If it's any comfort, if it's bright red blood and spattered then it's come from the rectum/anus, not further up the bowl, and that's usually one of the above or a few other things that are completely treatable and nothing to get in a panic about.

But he does need to get to the drs asap to get it checked out.

Bowel, not bowl LOL

He could have an anal fissure. But yes, definitely needs a doctor's opinion asap. Hope it turns out to be nothing :)

Bright red blood is more likely to be something relatively close to the opening like an internal haemarrhoid than anything really sinister. Any blood loss needs investigating and he really needs to go back to the GPs and ask for a referral. Make the appointement yourself, he's clearly worried if he's asked you to check the loo, poor chap

Thanks for your replies, I thought piles but the amount of blood that there was put me off, however it makes sense with the splatters that it is from lower down in the bowel,
He is a selfish sod if he doesnt go to the doctors tomorrow because my mind is working overtime but this is the man who put up with a broken rib for 2 months.
