How long to leave a cough before going to doctor?

Dd (4) has had a cough for about three/four weeks. It started off as a dry irritating cough, and is now phlegmy. Mostly at night-time. She now has a runny nose too, and her skin is getting bad (mild eczema which flares up when she isn't well) Apart from that she seems well enough.

Would most of you have taken her to the doctor by now? Or would you be inclined to leave it?

What colour is the phlegm, does she have a temperature?

I'd take her, just so the gp can check her over. I know that with my two, sometimes it's been hard to work out whether a cold that turned into a cough has actually turned into a chest infection. If it lingers, it's worth a visit to the surgery just to put your mind at rest.

I took mine to the doctor after 3 weeks, he had the same symptoms. Doc said if it doesn't go within 2 weeks then there is something else going on. My ds has a chest infection.

Haven't been able to see phlegm before she swallows it...urgggghhh. Normal temperature.

I probably should take her to the docs, for peace of mind, and she has her flu jab soon, I would want her to be completely well for that

spursmum, that's a good guideline. She has had one chest infection before, and I could tell that was what was wrong (chest rattling, high temp, vomiting) so I tend to think "this can't be a chest infection", but I guess there are different grades of infection.

That's what my doc said. The rattling cough is a bad one IYKWIM
Most coughs and colds should be shifted in 2 weeks my doc said.
