Hi all

Will try and make this short.

Have always had bad PMT and heavy periods. Had endometrial ablation last October where my womb lining was burnt away and now my periods are much lighter. However my PMT seems to be getting worse, physical symptoms that is, awful headaches before and after period that paracetemol don't seem to touch.

Had my follow up appointment today and the consultant said that the mini pill MAY help the PMT as it stops ovulation.

However my mum who is a nurse, says that no one should be on the pill over 30. I am 38.

What do you think? BTW I have had mirena coil about 4 years ago for 18 months and hated it, made me feel crap. Have also had other pills but years ago and they made me go a bit madSmile

I have the pill and I like cilest, it is a low hormone pill and where as before when I was on microgynone and that sent me mad this is different.I am alot calmer on it. I am not keen on the coil as I know too many people who have had bad experiences.

Can you talk to your gp about your options? :)

I also like Cilest. I can't have the implant, injection etc as I bleed on those type so I'm stuck with a pill. I found I was unbelievably moody on every one that I tried, microgynon being the worst. Mood swings galore, very vivid dreams on some, allsorts of problems. Cilest was great, calmed me down totally and also my periods (which are never that heavy tbh) became almost non-existent. I'm currently breastfeeding and am finding mini-pills are all making me moody so am not bothering with contraception atm but once DD is no longer BF I will be straight back onto Cilest.

Thanks for replying, yes I will discuss with doc although I am always a little wary after being pushed to have the mirena coil.

Have you got a family planning clinic near you? I tend to use that instead of the GP for contraception matters. I find they are much better at listening to concerns and less likely to push you into doing something you are unsure of.

the mini pill is ok for older women as it only contains 1 hormone. I am on cerazette and it has stopped my periods but it isnt always guaranteed that it will stop them as it can also cause erratic bleeding.

mini pill

p.s. cilest and microgynon are combined pills, not mini-pills

Thanks seona i will look at the link.

DH has now said he will actually consider the vasectomy and find out about that so may not need it after all.
