Every time I get ill it goes onto my chest......

I've had various minor colds over the last few months. Every time, I end up with it going on my chest and have had antibiotics a lot (for me!) in the last 6 months.

Should I be worried? I'm only 30 and have never had any problems like this before as a child or since and it strikes me as odd. The last time I was at the GP he said maybe I need an inhaler.

Could there be an underlying chest infection that isn't clearing up?

10 years I started having similar problems after having the flu jab. I had a chest infection that they failed to diagnose for 9 months and even after that cleared up I still had problems and ended up with an inhaler because they thought I had asthma. It eventually took about 8 years before I stopped having problems but now I'm fine and no longer need an inhaler.

If I were you I would go back to the doctor and get them to have another look.

Have you had SF? It really attacks your lungs... DH had it 20mo ago and since then every time he gets a cold it has turned into a chest infection, and he has to use asthma preventer everyday.

Thanks for replies. What is SF? giliair, I am not sure - I have had antibiotics but perhaps it's still there?

I'm sorry- swine flu.

And FWIW DH's chest infections have sometimes needed 3 courses of ABs to clear up... maybe it's not gone?

Hope you get some answers soon though.

Aha - that could make sense. In about November last year I had flu and my mum said 'maybe it's swine flu' but I just waited for it to go - it was the most ill I've been in years. I had fever, etc and I didn't feel better for about 3 weeks. Maybe it's to do with that? I guess I need to go back to the GP....my body just doesn't feel itself. I had laryngitis too a few weeks ago.

There you go

I'm sorry- I don't know that the GP can actually do anything about the after-effects of SF, other than treat the problems you have ongoing (eg inhalers, ABs where needed). Probably not what you wanted to hear, but sometimes just having a plausible explanation can help us feel a bit better!

Take care.

Thanks CN Smile I didn't even think about the flu thing. And yes you're right - it helps to just have a possible explanation. In the meantime the doctor has given me an inhaler which eases the tightness.
