Acid reflux, coughing, 15 wks pregnant

I've got horrible acid reflux which is making me cough, giving me sleepless nights and making me feel really uncomfortable under the ribs. It's uncomfortable to drive, to sit and to find a sleeping position. Dr has prescribed Gaviscon but has anyone got any tips on dealing with it? So daunted that I'm only 15 wks pregnant and yet so uncomfortable already. Plus doctor said I look more like I'm 20 wks pregnant! This acid reflux is really getting me down.

Have suffered from this for nearly 30 years so know how uncomfortable it is,esp during pregnancy. Gaviscon waste of time for me as acid carries on being made it only neutralises what already in your stomach. If it doesn't work ask him about other meds which are quite safe to take during pregnancy.(lansoprazole). I found that cutting out wheat products helps me enormously and not eating anything too high fat. Eggs are another problem for me. It will help you if you can identify the foods that your body isn't happy with.Sleep with extra pillows so that the acid can't go into your throat as I ended up with Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease which is where the acid has burnt into the oesophagus and its painful on top of being uncomfortable. Is this problem only with pregnancy?

Thanks for the advice about identifying the foods that set it off etc. You poor thing - how awful to have suffered with it for that long! Since my first post I've been prescribed omeprazole, but I've also been told I've got a bad chest infection. The combination of the two is obviously making things pretty uncomfortable for me. I'm hoping the omeprazole for the reflux and the antibiotics for the chest infection will help to calm things down. Thanks again.
