I'm taking dd2 for an emergency appointment to gp tonight because she has chicken pox (only 5 mo). A few weeks ago the gp tried me on a dose of anti depressants and said 'see you in a few weeks'. I've just realised I only have 3 left so need to get a repeat prescription. I could make am appointment for myself but will have to drag the poxy baby in again. Is it really bad form to ask for a repeat prescription at dd's appointment? I could order it online but it may not come in time & not sure they will give it to me again without seeing them face to face first as have only had them a month.

WWYD?

GP's have a strict "1 patient per appointment" rule. I've never known it to be broken.

However, you don't need an appointment to get a repeat prescription, necessarily. at my surgery I can hand it in to the receptionist, who gets the GP to renew the prescription, and I pick it up the next day. They phone me to make an appt if the GP wants to see me to check BP or anything before prescribing.

They have to have your notes aswell. You can call and ask for an appointment at the same time though as yours is a quickie.

Thanks for the replies. Makes sense. Don't really want to add on an appointment for me as this is an emergency one for dd at the end of surgery. I will just put a request in and they can call if there is a problem.

They might - I had to take ds in, and mentioned that I would need to see him for a prescription for a silicone dressing, and the gp did it on the spot. Be abjectly apologetic and you never know

Haggisfish · 09/03/2011 22:21

Yes, mine would give you a repeat script, epsecially for ADs. worth asking in your most apologetic tones!

I didn't ask in the end and just ordered it online but my lovely gp rang me up just to check up on me before doing the script.
