Recovery following laser eye surgery?

How long does it take to feel ok / be able to see properly after laser eye surgery.

My stepmum is having her eyes zapped this Friday and seems to think she'll be ok having my rampaging toddlers over to play on Monday for a while. I am not at all keen on the idea, especially if she's driving them around Hmm.

Someone said eyes go really bloodshot after the treatment too? Confused

I was fine 2 days after.

Depends how it goes, type of treatment, whether LASIK, LASEK< contact lens bandages or whatever.

She shouldn't be driving until cleared to do so ie postop (48-72hours) check by optician/surgeon.

DH was fine within minutes, no blood in eyes at all. Friend was unable to drive for a fortnight...

She should be fine. I had really itchy eyes right after, woke up fine the day after that.

i had mine done before lunchtime, went home they streamed (like id cut a million onions) for a couple of hours, went to bed got up about 3 hours later to perfect vision :) ive got 3 boys so it was dinner as normal.. mine didnt go red at all, only thing was i had to put drops in every couple of hours, but honestly it was fine, just the first night i made sure i had extra help for the boys, i didnt need it, but it did ensure an early night.
hope that puts your mind at rest :)

rennies I'm not sure which one she's having actually. Must ask her.

I think I will persuade her not to help on monday though (she can be too helpful at times).

If Lasik, she'll be needing to put steroid drops in every few hours for the first week, following the insertion of which you're supposed to keep your eyes closed for a few minutes. You also aren't supposed to pick up anything heavier than a bag of sugar for a while after the operation - something I get the feeling most people ignore/don't pay attention to when they are told. Vision-wise, though, she should be able to see well and shouldn't be uncomfortable. I had red patches in my eyes afterwards, but this is subconjunctival haemorrhaging, not bloodshot and sore eyes, pretty common after Lasik and painless, it just looks slightly alarming. Many people don't get it at all. She may also find she is a bit paranoid about little fingers getting anywhere near her eyes for a couple of weeks - I know the thought of having flaps in my corneas was enough to put me off letting my kids poke their fingers near my face for a while!

My dc's go for my eyes at the best of times, I will talk her out of having them over on Monday.

The 'flappy' bit freaks me out.

I was told to wear my sleeping goggles for 2-3 days after - during the day, as soon as they found out I had toddlers at home.

I wore DIY safety glasses at home for a couple of weeks after the op when the kids were around... and sunglasses when I went out for walks to avoid the risk of any dust or bits blowing into my eyes.
