Hi
Sorry to hear you're suffering. I suffer too.
I don't find I have food triggers as such (have always been teetotal anyway) but weather, cold, windy or summer sun can make mine worse. But do watch out on foods and avoid alcohol all together.
Doesn't mean I stay indoors and only venture out on grey still days but I always use a childrens non-chemical sunscreen (like Green peoples baby sunscreen). It helps even with cold and windy weather. Something to do with the zinc oxide contents.
Can only wear mineral makeup and cleanse with grapeseed oil and never use any other facial care products as it make my poor face glowing red and very sore.
I have tried various antibiotics. If they are to be effective, you need to take them long term (6 months plus at least) and don't expect to see serious improvement until you have been using them for 6 weeks or so.
I tried Lymecycline (one of the Tetracyclines) and found it wasn't that great for me and gave my stomach ache. I am assuming you have been on this one as you have dry skin??
However Eurthromycin was great for me. I had to take it twice a day with food (so breakfast and dinner) which was very doable. I took for over 6 months and it made a big difference.
Everyone is different so you may need to try a few different antibiotics to find the best one for you.
If you really dislike oral antibiotics, you can get ones you apply to your face. Slower and possibly less effective and can make your face very sore. I tried a few and they were extremely painful to use for me.
The very very best thing I have tried and would recommend you try too was Finacea. Its a cream applied to the face. Its actually perscribed mostly as anti-acne drug but has what is known as an "off label" use for rosacea. Took most of my redness and the soreness completely. Even allowed me a 2 week trip in the sun to the Indian Ocean without my face getting red. Unfortunately cannot use at present as am pregnant (all the above is banned during pregnancy and BFing).
You should get yourself referred to a dermatologist as its essential that you manage your rosacea now and do not allow it to get worse. My redness got worse before diagnosis and spread over my neck, chest and even upper arms (this is unusual). But do keep taking your tablets or your could end up being glowing red from your chest up. I know that sounds scary and very reassuring but honestly I was so bad that I almost couldn't leave the house even makeup couldn't cover it. And people would stare.
There are no miracle creams or tablets and there are no cures
so do your best to manage it now and you can control it.
The good news is that I got mine under control and despite not being able to use medication whilst pregnant, I am only slightly pinky on the cheeks and a little on my chin. The rest of the redness has gone. So it can be controlled. Find your own triggers and avoid them. Whether they are foods, weather related or creams/costmetics. It will all help.
