My DH had been diagnosed with this, and then my FIL and SIL have been diagnosed too. All were completing a course of ompeprazole/antibiotics. DH has since been given ranitidine and ref to a specialist, as he doesn't feel back to normal yet.
I have no symptoms, and neither does my mother in law (that I know of). I have never been susceptible to stomach issues, but DH and his family seem to be.
However I am concerned re my 12 month old. My FIL/MIL both do the fulltime babysitting for my 12 month old, and I wondered if anyone could share any knowledge on if this is contagious, and should we all be tested?
Thanks

I had the infection and and no one in my family caught it, but HP is contagious, this is why quite often it runs in family. If I were you I would have a word with your GP and see if they think it is worth having your son tested for it. I think a stool test is the best non invasive way of testing for it.

I've had HP too, not nice, but none of the other members of my family caught it.

I think they were quite little at the time but not as young as 12 months. Ask your GP.

I had it 2 yrs ago. No-one else in the family gad it.

Many people are assymptomatic (My step father had it without knowing)so it's worth getting tested. IIRC from reading up on it, when I had it, it's much rarer in children.

gad? got!

Monty27 · 06/03/2011 18:50

I think there's a high percentage of 'carriers' and as Bucharest says assymptomatic.

HI thanks everyone, appreciate the responses. I guess I am concerned that I may be a carrier without symptoms and worry (perhaps needlessly) that I may be capable of passing it on somehow? Or, that I may suffer the affects of it without realising?
Think I will get to the GP just to check.

Cheers
