Hi, just after xmas I happened to notice that my left eye lid looked puffier than my left. I was so worried that I went to my local eye hospital. He said the muscles in the eye lid could be weak and has referred me to see a consultant in 3 weeks. I do have my eyes tested yearly as I wear reading glasses my optician has never noticed it. I have checked old photos to see if my eye has been like this for a while but it's very hard to tell. I have looked at websites and am wondering if it Ptosis? has anyone had a droopy eye lid I am so worried :-(

Hi Cherry, I had a droopy eyelid as a child which my mother refused to seek treatment for... As I grew up it was less noticable, in my 20's I didn't really notice it at all, but as I got older it returned. It wasn't really droopy but when I was referred to a neurologist for migraine he questioned it and I was it was investigated. It was a ptosis, and I had it corrected under local anaesthetic, a simple op and the results are fantastic. Although you have only noticed your droopy eyelid since Xmas I wonder if there has been a muscle weakness in your lid and it's just taken this long to have any effect? Tiredness can also make ptosis more noticeable. Please don't worry, I'm sure if the eye hospital will have looked for other causes even if they didn't tell you at the time..... I know mine is slightly different to yours but I didn't like to leave your post unanswered.
