I've just been diagnosed with PCOS after alooooong diagnostic period. I'm wondering whether the PCOS has contributed to my horrible mood swings. The week after my period I'm really really down, and disinterested in everything, crying, sad, feel worthless etc. It's like someone has flicked a switch and made me feel shite, then after a few days it's gone.
Other times of the month I can be FURIOUS over not a lot really...especially with my partner.

A few days a month I'm a normal balanced person - almost!

Has anyone had any experience with PCOS affecting moods?

hi i was diagnosed with PCOS at 16 now 29 four children later the past year has been bad periods stopped had one since lost two stone but none since well moods are so bad pmt is understated, i have found since taking different vitamins and herbal remedies i have started to calm down, i looked up all health related remedies that help balance our lovely hormones and her are some hope these help, also i found all pills made things worse. evening primrose oil, ginkgo biloba, siberian ginseng, red clover even red raspberry leaf, chasteberry, and PABA. ALWAYS ASK GP/HERBALIST if unsure, i dont know if you struggle with weight under/over that is a battle also if your trying for a baby these can make you feel quite rubbish on there own. hope this helped your not alone nor is u hubby lol take care xx

I don't know - I have PCOS but don't really have PMS but then again I'm on the pill which probably masks it (and if not on pill periods were so few and far between I wouldn't have noticed)

So posting more as a bump in case anyone else has more input. Do ask your doctor though - are you seeing a specialist ?

xpost with natalie..

also i found all pills made things worse
whereas I find that Marvelon essentially removes my PCOS symptoms - everyone is different!

Thanks all

Yep I'm seeing a specialist. I'll talk more about the moods to him when I go back to see him. Yep I struggle with weight. Put it on easily and it's really hard to loose. I walk LOADS (can't drive), swim three or four times a week, go hiking or walking at the weekend, and eat sensibly. I AM loosing weight but very very very slowly

I have PCOS and get bad PMT symptoms.....I've never considered whether the two might be related though. Do let us know how you get on with the specialist.

I am clearly the lucky one in the PCOS stakes. I don't have PMS, I have never had PMS.
I am now well into menopause territory so it doesn't really apply.
do ask your consultant about it.
