What can I do about a broken toe?

Stubbed my toe quite badly at the weekend, it's now gone bright purple and dark blue and is very sore and throbby. Can't really walk without limping. My mum reckons it's broken. Is there anything a GP can do? I assume they just strap it up which I could probably do...

Ouch! Sorry about your toe. I broke my little toe a couple of years ago (walked full tilt into a woodpile whilst wearing flip-flops) and it was v sore and bruised for a while. Didn't see the GP as I didn't think they would do much that I couldn't do.
Try painkillers (ibruprofen for swelling) and arnica?
Unless it's a big toe then it might need strapping up.
Hope it feels better soon!

drugs - paracetamol and NSAIDS and ice. much sympathy. broke mine last autumn and it bloody hurt for months.

It might not be broken, and even if it is the GP probably won't advise to strap it. If you strap it up incorrectly you could end up with a permanently deformed toe.

I broke my toe doing sport a few years back - people on the other side of the hall heard the crack Confused It was bloody painful!

Keep your foot raised as much as possible to help bring the swelling down and take painkillers.

I broke mine last year

A&E strapped it to the next one (I think it was next to littlest) & gave me lots of painkillers

privategodfrey, I thought that might happen (the deformed toe thing) so that's why I haven't done anything yet. I'm at work so not that able to raise it too much... keep trying but it does look like I'm just sitting with my feet on the desk and not working. Pain killers not really doing much :(

My DD broke hers a couple of years ago, and was told there was nothing they could do it would heal on its own.

My mum broke hers a while a go and they strapped the broken toe to the next one (but it was so uncomfortable she took the strapping off as soon as she got home - so waste of time really)

I agree with lots of painkillers and keep the weight off it.
