My tail bone is so sore that I can hardly sit down without being in pain.
I have had 4 epidural's but my tail bone has never been sore until after my 4th .
Is this something you just have to live with or should i visit my gp x

Am I right in thinking that this has been caused by childbirth?

If you've bruised your coccyx, it does take ages to heal but one of these helps hugely.

It would be worth mentioning to your GP though, as they may feel it warrants further investigation.

I hurt mine in an accident (friends larking, chucked me in a ditch- would have been funny but there was a concrete block at the bottom :-0) I would say it took about a year in total to stop hurting, though obviously 'tailed off' -sorry!

If it's not related to childbirth, it could be caused by an ingrowing hair, known as a pilonidal sinus or cyst. I had several of these when I was in my late teens/early twenties and they are very painful. Your doctor can treat with antibiotics, but if it goes untreated it may need surgery to drain it. More info here.

if childbirth/injury related, osteopathy sould be able to help by manipulating it back into place

Hi, this is going to sound stupid but I dont know if its related to childbirth, can an epidural cause this as all my births were c sections.

I dont remember hurting it otherwise so im guessing it probably is childbirth related.

I've also had a pilonidal sinus, they were excrutiating, they were the size of an egg and felt like little knives hitting my coccyx. I pray that you don't have it, I couldn't move, walk, sit or sleep.

Maddie, if you are in pain, you need to see a doctor, you can't get a definitive answer on the internet. Whatever the cause, you don't have to live with it. The pilonidal sinus can just come on, it is not the result of an injury.

Hope you get it sorted out soon.
