pre operative assessment

Does anyone know when these are normally carried out? ie. how long before the op you usually have one?

The reason I'm asking is because I've had my appointment through for my pre-op assessment and it's next Tuesday - which is much earlier than I thought. I don't even have date for my op yet, and was just wondering if it is likely to be soon.

Thanks for your replies. I may still be waiting a while then. It's only a small op - a laparoscopy, nothing serious :)

my local hospital like to get the pre op assessments done as soon as possible after referral - I had a consultants appointment on a Thursday, the pre-op on the Tuesday, and the actual op four months later (although I put of the original date which would have been 10 weeks later).

That makes sense IShallWearMidnight. I was only referred on Monday, which is why I was surprised to be told pre-op is week. I started to panic as I haven't told work yet, and I may have to sort out childcare for DD. 10 weeks sounds more realistic :)
