Spots on darling baby's face

Hi, my DS is only four weeks old but everyso often he has lots of tiny spots on his face. These seem to clear up after a day, only to return a couple of days later. Am I right in thinking that this is normal and that babies have lots of tiny spots just due to thier skin adjusting to the outside world? THanks

I can't speak for your baby's spots, but my ds2, when he was about 3 weeks old, came out n the most horrible rash on his face. It lasted about 3 weeks and unfortunately, because it was so disfiguring, I didn't take any photos of him during that time which I regret now. Anyway, they went away and he has never had trouble with his skin since so in his case, yes it was just a case of his skin adjusting to the outside world.

I take it your HV or doctor has ssen the spots and told you not to worry about them? As long as your baby seems healthy and feeds well, it probably isn't anything else.

I think it's just normal. They often go through a spotty stage at about 6 weeks IIRC.

i was told [if you are breastfeeding] it was because the baby's skin is adjusting to the hormones in your milk - they are often called 'milk spots'. My ds had them for about a month at 4 weeks i think, and because they had pus in them he was given fucidin cream. However another doctor said this wasn't necessary and they would have cleared up on their own.

My dd had them they were very red and lumpy but they cleared up after a few weeks.

Yup absolutely, totally and utterly normal. They happen however you feed. They appear just when you want most to show your baby off to the world/get photos done etc They go away all by themselves and you forget your baby ever had them.

Normal. Are you breastfeeding - if so express a tiny bit of milk and rub it on the spots. I don't know why it works, but it does.

totally normal, they just go away after about 3 or 4 weeks.

Thanks everyone. It's late afternoon now, and yup - they have faded quite a bit!
