My Boyfriend has had a spot type lump on his back for some weeks now, i only noticed it this weekend and it doesnt look normal.
its about the size of a 5p coin and all around it is very tight and red underneath and bright white at the top.
its not a spot and i initially thought it was a boil, but as the weekend went on it began to look less like anything like than and more worrying and seems to have got bigger and redder.
the earliest appointment i can get him for doctors is friday, so ill be worried till then and when ive just called him to tell him about appointment he just said ok, so i know he's a little worried too otherwise he wouldnt go

Could it be an ingrowing hair?

PumpkinMuffins · 17/10/2005 09:24

he is getting more hair on his back as he gets older(only 35), but at close look, i cant see anything and i get those myself, but he doesnt feel any real pain with it.

Go to the hospital then.

PumpkinMuffins · 17/10/2005 09:29

he's at work and although is showing less concern than i know he's feeling, he wont make a big deal of it and am happy he's agreed to go to doctors, hes just said he feels daft going to doctors becasue he has a spot.

could be an ingrowing hair, you wont necessarily see the hair

the nurse might me able to deal with it, if you can get an appt with the practice nurse before friday then take that appt, but keep the one with the dr, just incase she tells him he needs to go to dr, iyswim

PumpkinMuffins · 17/10/2005 16:07

thanks for that, ill speak to him about the nurse visit tonight

where is the lump, is it low down in the sacral area or higher up?

If it's in the sacral area it could be a pilonidal sinus (?sp) which is basically an ingrowing hair and very commen in hairy blokes! Get it seen asap though as it can startto track inwards and go a long way in IYSWIM! - ouch

startingtobehalloweenylover · 17/10/2005 21:46

ditto to jacobsmummy! a friend of dp's was left almost paralysed after a hair grew in and caused a massive abcess on her spine!

Passionkiller · 17/10/2005 22:13

sounds just like the sebacious cyst I had about eight years ago.

Dr had to remove it surgically but is harmless really just very uncomfortable and in my case disgusting as it started to seep green smelly puss while we were on holiday in france. DH then a realtively new boyfriend had to keep sqeezing it for me as I couldn't reach it. It was then I realised that he really did love me

PumpkinMuffins · 17/10/2005 23:15

oo-er! sounds lovely!
ok, thanks again, will mention it to dp and update on how it go's thankyou

just to those who helped me the other day..it is an infected ingrowing hair and is not seeping disgusting yellow puss, has been given anti biotics, but if continues to cause pain, has to go back as the lump will prob always be there now???only alternative is surgery to remove.
thanks for the help girls
