Can you have a water infection without pain on urination?

I am feeling like I constantly need to wee even straight after I've been. I have back pain on each side (kidneys?), really smelly wee, generally feeling ill. Everything sounds like a UTI although the weeing itself is not painful although things feel a bit "strange" (swollen?) down below. Do you think it is still a UTI?

yes
sounds like uti
you don't have to have pain passing urine
sounds like it is serious enough to warrant anti-biotics

Thanks for quick response ggirl.

I have just been out to buy cranberry juice and taken a sachet for cystitis.

DH thinks I am not too bad and should wait until Monday to see my GP if it's no better but the kidney pain keeps getting worse so I think i will the out-of-hours doc later today if it's not improving.

Yes you're doing all the right things.
Have you got a fever?

pikachu999 · 19/02/2011 13:12

No fever (I was shivery last night but OK today). Just feel tired and a bit nauseous. So hopefully things will sort themselves out but I'm ready to get medical treatment if things get worse.

cranberry mainly for preventing I think so don't feel you have to drink gallons of that

pikachu - if you've got back pain and smelly wee and feeling nauseous I would go to OOH and get some antibiotics. It won't get better on its own (veteren of many UTI'S) and kidney infections.

pikachu999 · 19/02/2011 16:17

Thanks agedknees.

I took myself off to bed, and slept for 2 hours and think i feel a bit better, but take note of your experience too. I'm aware that having antibiotics too often isn't good, but if things don't improve, I will have to get this checked out.

would second agedknees think that the pain in your kidneys is probably not good news I would see Dr asap!

pikachu999 · 19/02/2011 18:12

I've put a call out to the OOH service and expecting a GP to call back within the hour.

Just to say thanks for the advice to get this looked at. Got appointment at GP collaborative for 9pm and confirmed as water infection and got some antibiotics. Pain is quite severe now, so glad I've done something and hope to be better in a few days.
