Please please come and tell what this reoccurring stomach pain is - I can't take it much longer

It's just above my belly button. Comes and goes in waves, paracetamol doesn't touch it but doctor won't give me anything stronger as EBF.

Been going on since I gave birth last Nov.

Hurts so much. Doctor did urine sample, it was clear. She said to go back if it keeps happening. This is the second time this week.

Also, on a daily basis, whenever I bend down I feel sick.

Any ideas?

Sorry for jumpy post - in pain

Maybe gall bladdar

CrispyCakeHead · 17/02/2011 22:02

gallbladder ishoos are typically under ribs on the right hand side, strating at front and extending round to the back, and making it feel very very difficult to get comfortable. Like the worst indigestion you have ever felt.

have you noticed a corellation between what you eat and the pain? as gallbaldder attacks are often spring on by eating fatty foods. I was a real cheesy baked potato fan, but that would set it off, as did curries and anything fried. I used to get a little bit of relief from lying on my left side with a wheat bag over the bottom of my ribs on the right side. Painkillers dulled it a bit, but never actually took the pain away; it was a case of battening down the hatches until it had passed.

I would ask GP for further investigations and aslo get her to check what you can actually have as a painkiller. I was feeding my DS2 when I had gallstones and was on a cocktail of buscopan, codiene and something else that although not a pinkiller, enhanced the effect of the codiene.

Feeling sick when bending over can be a sign of a hiatus hernia, I think.

I'm reading and googling at the same time - well as best as I can atm. Will have a proper look when pain has gone.

Really appreciate the suggestions and advice on how to prevent and ease the symptoms.

going to doctors tomorrow if i can get in, cant keep on like this.

tbh, if the pain is that bad; I would get yourself to A&E. After being in pain for almost 24 hours and my third visit to the docs in as many days; the OOH doc finally sent me straight over to the hospital who admitted me (and luckily DS2 as well) for a couple of days for tests, where they foudn the gallstones.

It was the most intense pain I have ever experienced tbh; much worse than being in labour Shock

BeenBeta · 17/02/2011 22:30

Unlikley to be gallbladder as it is in the wrong position as CrispyCake says.

I suggest grumbling appendix. Usually begins around belly button and then migrates in acute stages.

You definitley need to see a GP who will do a series of diagnostic tests.

CrispyCakeHead · 18/02/2011 00:35

BeenBeta....were you another "Beta" name before? If so we have talked gallbladders at length before when I was using another name Grin

BeenBeta · 18/02/2011 07:37

Yes. Beleive it or not I can hide from Google with this name.

alypaly · 20/02/2011 01:09

sounds like gall stones

echt · 20/02/2011 07:24

Wrong position for gallstones.

Definitely needs further tests.

Keep banging on at your doctor. You must do this. Go to A&E if you must. I am in Oz, have insurance and got investigations within a week with gallstone symptoms. You'll have to push at the NHS door much harder.

Read an article a couple of years ago which showed doctors as less experienced in spotting the grumbling appendix.

bubbleandsqueaks · 20/02/2011 15:10

Where would gallstones symptoms be?

OP posts:
echt · 20/02/2011 18:13

Right hand side, under ribs, but high up . Pain in back at the same level. Usually during the night.

Google the symptoms, there are lots of helpful websites.

alypaly · 22/02/2011 00:58

my gall stone pain was all over the place. above belly button.then slightly to the left, then the right and also into right shoulder blade. when it was just above my belly button i had a raised amylase and they supected that a stone had got lodged in my pancreas and given me an acute attack of pancreatitis.

what is the pain like if you lean forward

bubbleandsqueaks · 22/02/2011 10:24

When I lean forward I feel nauseous. I get it whenever I empty the washing machine etc.

bubbleandsqueaks · 22/02/2011 10:24

How did they treat your gallstones?

OP posts:
Elibean · 22/02/2011 11:01

Could be a hernia - I have had one since dd1. It does make me feel sick when I bend down, sometimes, but pain is a little higher up - more like heartburn.

Do go back to GP, you shouldn't be left to struggle on with it.

COCKadoodledooo · 22/02/2011 11:13

Appendicitis pain begins around the belly button.

I had a good couple of months of unidentifiable stomach pains (lower right abdomen) before they decided on a laparoscopy to see what was going on. They told me when I came out of theatre that they'd removed my appendix - it wasn't traditional appendicitis, but it was longer than it should be and had begun to twist itself around my bowel. Nice.

I'd be back to the GP to ask for further tests and scans tbh. With mine my gp didn't seem that interested (passed it off as ovulation pains more than once). My pain was particularly bad during one of my uni finals, so I walked out and went to A&E. Where I was admitted straight away.

bubbleandsqueaks · 22/02/2011 18:10

I went to the doctors and he gave me some tablets to take for gastro problems - fingers crossed they work

OP posts:
alypaly · 22/02/2011 18:39

they treated my gallstones by taking out my gall bladder as the tablet treatment can take many years and often doesnt work. although i was told that you can still get stones after the op i have not had any problems since about 2-3 months after op. no pain no nausea ,no weight loss. i am able to eat anything now Smile
