Stabbing pain in my back passage, 10 days after c section and previously had endometriosis. Any ideas?

I had a c section last week and have been treated for endometriosis in the past.

I didn't know I had endo until I had a laparoscopy, 5 years ago, to look for polycystic ovaries (I didn't have them).

I think then, it explained certain pain that get that I didn't take that much notice of but I notice now when I need a poo (sorry TMI) I sometimes get a stabbing pain in my back passage. When I was talking to my doctor last year, she said this sounded like endometriosis in that area as it mainly hurt when I was on my period.

The other night I woke up at 3am and it was really hurting. I had to go toilet and it was agony and I am also on iron tablet as I am anaemic after giving birth so am a bit constipated.

I don't think the pain is anything to do with my section as I have felt it before but it has never been this bad and it hurts just to sit down sometimes.

Does this sound like endometriosis pain? Surely I shouldn't be getting it straight after having a baby, I thought pregnancy was suppose to 'sort it out' although my doctor did think my symptoms sounded like it was still there after I had DS 3 years ago. I had some lasered away but nothing in the back passage.

It sounds like it could be piles. I had it after each of my dc. Apparently you can get them internally as well as externally so basically in your back passage. I found suppositories helped. Would probably be best to get it checked out if it doesn't stop though.

Ok thanks.

If it does carry on I will definitely go to the doctors, I got a wave of stabbing pain this morning when I was in the kitchen and I could barely stand it. Going to the toilet is agony.

could ne anal fissure, a small tear in the skin that is unbearably painful and completely treatable. If you get pain while gooing for a poo and then a sort of crippling throbbing pain about 40 min later, that might be it.

Is the pain round your bum or do you feel it further inside, feeling almost to your stomach? Is it a cramp type pain or a sharp cutting pain?

AttilaTheMeerkat · 18/02/2011 15:06

Hi CB,

No, pregnancy does not "sort out" endo at all I am sorry to report and it can easily recur (I get endo related pains now and again but not as severe as in the years prior to lap surgery). They may not have checked the rectal area when doing the lap op or equally they missed it.

Any symptoms that are cyclical in nature and get worse up to and including menstruation may well be endo related.

Your GP seems well clued up, I would be seeking medical advice in any event with a view to getting a referral to a gynaecologist.

www.endo.org.uk is a good website re endo generally.

Thanks for your replies.

I have suffered with fissures before and this is a different pain.

Countess I do feel it inside, like all around my uterus (I think thats where the pain is).

The endo I was treated for was in my pelvis so they never looked any further than that. I have wondered for a long time if I had it in the back passage too.

My doctor said if it hurts when going to the toilet when I am on my period, which is usually when I get this stabbing pain, then that sounds like endo. She also said I won't get the laser surgery again as that is for infertility and I have children so I will only be offered things to stop my periods, like the coil or implant. This was just before we were going to start ttc so I left it. Now DD has just arrived, I'll probably go down the implant route anyway.

Let me know how you get on? good luck with the doctors.
I think I have something similar to you :(

CrapBag · 19/02/2011 14:58

I'm not actually planning on going yet. It seems to have eased to what it was.

Do you know what yours is?

CB

re your comment:-

"She also said I won't get the laser surgery again as that is for infertility and I have children so I will only be offered things to stop my periods, like the coil or implant".

Hmm re your GP. I think she is misinforming you here and you certainly need a specialist more informed opinion.

I would ask for a referral to a gynae now and do not take no for an answer. Coil and or implant won't address this at all.

CB

Also such pains are cyclical in nature as well so I would expect it to ease up. I would put a crisp £5 note on this all being due to endo.

CrapBag · 19/02/2011 19:42

Attila unfortunately my GP isn't misinforming me. It is what my health trust do. She referred another woman with endo to the hospital and they referred her back to the doctor as they wouldn't perform the laser surgery or treat for infertility as the woman already had a child. Its not a great health trust that we have down here.

I will ask for a gynae referral though as I did find one online that specialises in endo at my hospital.

Do you have endo as well?
