Hi there

I've got pleurisy which came about after going down with flu over a fortnight ago which then went onto my chest. I'm on second lot of ABs and anti-inflammatory painkillers.

I've actually had this before (about 8/9 years ago) but can't remember how it eventually went away. I'm pretty sure it lingered a while and then gradually got better.

Anyway, does anyone know how long it can last or of there's anything I can do to relieve it?

Basically, the pain is in my left lung, under my ribs. It's constant dull ache which gets much worse when I breathe in/cough/move on that side. It also hurts to touch that area too :( There is a rattly wheeze going on aswell.

Thanks in advance

Diclofenac, aka Voltarol.

I found heat made it worse so ice pack.

Lots of rest to fight off the infection.

Sleep as upright as you can - lots of pillows under your shoulders, or raise the head of the bed on phone books etc.

Eucalyptus to help you breathe.

Echinacea, as above, boosts the immune system. Twinings do a lovely echinacea and raspberry tea. Lots of healthy fruit/veg etc also helps the immmune system so try not to indulge in chocolate "to make you feel better" too much Wink

Thank you both.

I'm trying to rest, but have a very active 11 month old DD and a five year old DD who needs to be taken to/from school!

I don't find it a particular problem at night, but it is sore when I come to get out of bed first thing or if I turn over in bed and 'catch' it.

I'm finding the worst thing is doing the school run (about ten mins each way, twice a day with pram). Obviously walking quickens my breathing and I feel as though I can't get enough breath without it hurting like hell. Luckily DD1 is on half term after today so at least I don't have to go out and do that.

I will certainly get some immune system boosters - my whole body feels like it needs a major tonic, especially after all of the antibiotics!

Yes, thanks djshed

I've been drinking Actimel in the hope that it might keep some good bacteria alive. I'll get something better when I've finished the ABs.
