a thread started by me on the same subject a couple of years ago

I even say in the thread that my symptoms intensify in January / February (that would be right!)

I really must do something about that damn light box! Feeling really flat and apathetic today....

Anyone else suffering currently ?

Can't believe I still haven't acted on it [kicks self!]

dd suffers from it hmc. Well, I'm pretty sure she does. She's been dreadful since Christmas. Roll on Spring I say.

Have light boxes come down in price I wonder?

wildstrawberryplace · 15/02/2011 17:46

I get it. I have a Philips light pad that I got in about 2002 - it's never had to have a bulb replacing yet and I've used it each winter for 30 mins a day. It helps so much and was well worth the initial investment.

Do it!

hmc · 15/02/2011 18:23

I will strawberry! - thanks for the recommendation Smile

I think the reason why I haven't up until now is because I tend to 'forget' I suffer from SAD during the months April to October, and only 'remember' again come January time (it doesn't really get started for me until post Christmas)

Sorry about your dd suffering from it Edited, I hate to think of a child feeling sad....

She's 17 now hmc (time flies). I think the teenage age habit of sitting in hunched over a laptop and the hormonal aspect too aren't helping.

Not seen you around much recently did you find real life?

hmc · 15/02/2011 23:18

Ah tricky those teenage years! - well Edited I have ordered a sunrise simulator alarm clock and light box from Amazon this evening so I'll let you know if they are any good in case dd might benefit. Poor kid - normal teenage angst mixed with a bit of SAD, what a potent combination!

Yep, don't post as much these days - more to do with competition from fb for my online time than anything else...plus Mn not as new and fresh after 8 years (cyclical debates keep popping up!) - you posting as much?

I am seriously thinking about getting a light box.

I hadn't realised that I get SAD until we've had to miss a few years ski trip due to being pregnant/DC too small. I had not appreciated how much that week away in late Jan/early Feb really helped me through the winter.

I really must do something about it though, because this year has the potential to snowball nastily into ante-natal and then post-natal depression, and having been down that road once before I'm not keen to go there again.

Bumperlicious · 15/02/2011 23:25

I often search and find a thread that is exactly what I am looking for only to realise it was my own!

Really recommend the lumie clock, I have had one for years and it makes waking up in the winter more bearable. Also have a light box but have forgotten to use it this year.

hmc · 15/02/2011 23:27

Glad it isn't just me Bumper!

Alibaba - I've just returned from a week in Florida 10 days ago, but despite it being sunny and in the 70's it doesn't seem to have had a long lasting mood uplifting effect this year

Yes - let me know how you get on.

No - not posting so much, for much the same reasons, also the privacy stuff these days (hence the undercover name). Smile

The alarm clock sounds interesting too.
