My fingers and feet seem slightly swollen 10 weeks after childbirth. I can't wear my wedding ring comfortably. Any one else have this?

Hi!
I am 10 months post birth, & still exactly the same as you!!!
Doc put me on diuretics last week, so hoping it helps!
Good luck! xxx

YankNCock · 14/02/2011 16:08

If I remember correctly, it did take a while for all the swelling to go down. I'm sure it wasn't until 3 months after the birth that I could wear rings again. I think it is normal!

Oddly all the weight I gained went in just 2 weeks (I was overweight to start), but the swollen extremities stayed a lot longer.

jalopy · 14/02/2011 16:35

Are you anaemic?

Wafflepuss · 14/02/2011 16:38

Took me months to get my rings back on, don't panic!

whattoexpect · 15/02/2011 08:41

It's good to know I'm not alone! I think it's so strange that they're still swollen, especially since I don't have much weight to lose elsewhere...

Is the swelling new, or has it just never gone?

whattoexpect · 15/02/2011 09:03

Belgo - not sure, to be honest. Why?

I thought I could get my wedding ring during latter months of pregnancy, but can't remember. I don't remember it being quite as tight as it is now. Yesterday, I went to get it enlarged at the jewellers (they can shrink it again if necessary). I left it there for an hour and by the time I'd gone back for it, I couldn't get it on even one size up! My hands feel quite warm. Maybe I'm not drinking enough water

If it's new, then maybe a trip to your GP?

I know swelling can continue after pregnancy, but I haven't heard of new swelling.

whattoexpect · 15/02/2011 09:18

I don't think it's entirely new but I'll keep an eye on it. Thanks

whattoexpect · 15/02/2011 16:36

Alypaly - no, neither

whattoexpect, i soo sympethise with you! It is extremely frustrating! I too don't have high BP, didn't have pre eclampsia or protein in urine, and am not anaemic!
Makes you wonder if we shall ever be normal again!! lol!xx

missjulie · 15/02/2011 18:33

Also, do you have pins and needles in your hands/lower arms, feet/and lower legs at all?

whattoexpect · 15/02/2011 19:19

No Missjulie - no pins and needles. No other symptoms at all. I spoke to my sister today and she said she had it for a while after childbirth too...do you have pins and needles?

Everyone seems different, don't they?!
Yes, i have, happens extremely often each day, am seeing the doctor about it at the moment.

LauraGoodall · 29/06/2020 19:38

Has anyone experienced oedema in feet around 10 weeks postpartum, along side pins and needles, burning, tightening and sharp pains all in feet and ankles.

I have had all my bloods taken, ECG and urine samples I’m all good in those. I don’t have preeclampsia.

I’m in so much pain and just wondering if anyone else has ever experienced this??

Cryabrit · 24/11/2020 03:41

I am 9 weeks postpartum and this just started happening to me over the last few days. I drink lots of water (and it’s really all I drink) and I’m starting to worry. I get painful swelling out of nowhere in my hands and feet with pins and needles. Did you ever find out what it was?

JayneMcHugh1 · 30/05/2021 20:56

Hi Laura Goodall, I had the same symptoms with my first son. It's eased as the months went on but the minute I stopped breastfeeding it went completely. I spoke to a friend and she went through the same thing, and she was told by her Dr that it was to do with hormones. - I could be wrong but you still have the relaxant hormone in your body when feeding and it can do all.sorts of weird and wonderful things. Saying all this, it is always important you get fully checked by your GP.

JayneMcHugh1 · 30/05/2021 21:00

Also I should say, I am now pp 8 months on baby number 2, and have swollen hands. They can be tight at times and warm. I'm finishing up bf this month so I will let you know if it was hormonal - side note I am slightly low in iron but nothing crazy.

Llan349 · 20/01/2022 20:50

Hey, similar experience but 10months postpartum! Did the swelling go eventually?
