Itchy red toes and foot starting to swell

Its dh and his manky hobbit feet.

Wednesday night he had itchy toes and couldn't sleep. He thought it was athletes foot so treated again next day. By thurs eve it was red and puffy across top of foot too. He took some zirtek and ibuprofen ad it felt bit better.
He's come home from work today and it's lots more red, swollen and sore- he's hobling on it.

Any ideas of what it is or how to treat?
He has dr app for mon am.

Have his feet been cold at all? If so he could have chilblains on his toes, they cause swelling and are very itchy.

Not chilblains. He always has warm feet and it's been quite mild here lately.
I can spot them as I get them dead easily.

could be hand, foot & mouth, an allergy or a reaction to something eg medication.

could also be cellulitis so worth getting it checked over.

well he's now on way home from nhs walk in.

its an infection possibly from a untreated fungal infection.

dr said he was right to come in as untreated it would have kept swellng up till permanent damage was caused!!! he's on antibiotics, paracetamol, anti-histamines, 2hr-ly cold water baths for it to keep swelling down, and rest.

thanks for replies!
