Merina Coil, anyone had any good experiences with it?

My doc has suggested I have this fitted for heavy periods. I've looked on the web and it says all good stuff, but there is another thread on here only with bad news, weight gain, spots, mood swings

Is there anyone out there that has used this coil with no problems. Its a bit hard to make a choice about what to use when I've not seen both sides. Smile

I love my coil.....no spots, no mood swings, no weight gain (which I can blame on the coil anyway Blush)no side effects at all except no periods....., and that is the side effect I wanted. You can try it, and have it removed if it doesn't work out for you.

Mine is great no periods no pmt, I feel more sexy tooSmile.
Having it put in was ok, but I was a bit achey for 24hrs or so.
It took a couple of months for my periods to settle down. Since then it's been brilliant.

Just back from appointment to arrange getting my Mirena replaced next month. Doctor said no sex at all for 2 weeks before fitting Shock is this normal?!

jollyma · 01/03/2011 19:44

Has anyone had one fitted after experiencing cervical erosion. Did you get a return of or worsening of spotting?

BabyBorn · 01/03/2011 20:07

BabyBorn, at 47 heart palpitations, mood swings and slight acne can also be symptoms of menopause.

What and it started 8 years ago?? I also had exactly the same symptoms and im only 26, so deffo not menopause!

SparkleRainbow · 02/03/2011 10:38

Yep normal bluejeans, no unprotected sex for two weeks before so that you can't be pregnant. I actually had mine fitted half way though my period, my gp said that was best, definitely not pregnant that way.....fat chance anyway I had just had dd2, and dh wasn't allowed anywhere near me at that point Grin

schroeder · 02/03/2011 11:53

Wouldn't of thought you'd have to abstain if you're having it swapped though-surely there's not much chance of you being pregnant with the coil in placeConfused.

Exactly schroeder specially as the doctor recommended getting it done a month before the 5 years is up...

And don't they usually just say to use a condom rather than a strict 'no sex'?

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 02/03/2011 18:27

Well, had mine fitted yesterday. And am very glad I took the whole day off work. It was grim - possibly because I was very nervous (and therefore tense). We almost gave up after the first attempt but I was brave and persevered Grin

Bled a fair bit yesterday but just a bit of spotting and the odd twinge today.

Thinking ahead, does fitting the replacement hurt less?

angels3 · 16/03/2011 18:33

I quite like the idea of no periods, I didn't know that was a possiblility! Smile but I'm still waiting for test results, and hopefully one I've got the ok, will be giving it a go. ! yeah! Does the GP fit it?

My GP fitted mine, assisted by a nurse.

I have to say though I'm still bleeding a bit over two weeks on. The GP warned me it might go on for a few months :(

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 16/03/2011 18:41

Mine was no more uncomfortable than a smear test when it was put in (make sure you get an experienced doc, I went to the FP clinic rather than have my GP do it, I wanted someone who was doing it day in day out rather than one every few weeks or so).

I walked to the Drs, was finished half an hour later and walked home, no problems whatsoever. Periods more or less stopped within about 4 months, no spots (as in zits), minor spotting but only have to use a tampon once or twice a year, no weight gain, has suited me very well. Had it nearly 3 years now.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 16/03/2011 18:42

I did get a lot of (almost continuous) light bleeding the first few months, which was annoying, but it gradually just all stopped.

Pkam · 16/03/2011 21:03

Love mine. No periods and no problems. A few months of light bleeding and occasional spotting now but worth it. Fitting it was a bit of a hassle - two attempts (by GP) timed with periods and some weird spray to relax my cervix which made me fall over afterwards as also dilated all my blood vessels. Falling over whilst trying to put your pants on is quite funny Blush

dizzyblonde · 17/03/2011 16:25

I had heavy bleeding for six months at which time I gave up and had it removed! It was also so painful having it fitted I fainted. Had no previous problems with pill and depo injection. Have just had an implant fitted, hopefully this will work.
