I've never had eczema, even as a child. The only person in our family that has it is DD who, around spring time for the last couple of years has had it in the crooks of her elbows and knees but only ever for a few weeks and then it clears up.

Anyway I woke up the other day with incredibly itchy crooks of my elbows. Red spotty raised rash, itches like hell and stings when scratched - exactly as DD describes hers.

Can you just suddenly get it as an adult even if you've never had it before then?

Bit of a bugger really as I'm off on holiday next week and expect the suncream will aggravate it.

(BTW no changes in shower stuff, perfumes, washing powders, clothes etc)

I don't know, but I had psoriasis for the first time a couple of years ago (I was 47).

Snap! And I blame mine on the Mirena.

NorbertDentressangle · 11/02/2011 14:27

Norman me old mucker! Put the kettle on Grin

I'm presuming its another of those things to add to the long list of "illnesses and ailments that appear once you hit 40" (or is that just me thats rapidly falling apart?)

on't really know why it suddenly occurred, although the GP said that stress can often bring it on, and I had had a couple of slightly stressful years.

mousymouse · 11/02/2011 14:28

yes you can. I had my first break out when I was 25.
could you just be sensitive? has your schampoo, washing powder changed?

NorbertDentressangle · 11/02/2011 14:28

No Mirena here. In fact no meds or anything.

Where's yours Mumsnut? (if that's not too personal a question)

No Mirena here either.

I've been putting the moisturising cream stuff on that DD was prescribed for her eczema.

Still itches like mad though

Hands principally. And arse Grin

NormanTheForeman · 11/02/2011 15:44

My psoriasis didn't respond at all to moisturising creams, or even the over the counter weak hydrocortisone. It was only when I got some stronger steroid cream from the GP it improved.

NormanTheForeman · 11/02/2011 15:45

My psoriasis was mostly on my legs (ankle areas mostly).

I recently had a small patch of very itchy bumpy skin what my gp said was intertrigo under my boob. He gave me some hydrocortisone cream (the weakest) kind. I used that but no improvement. Went back to GP. He said eczema or dermatitis jeep
Using cream. No improvement after two months.

Then a friend who suffers from psoriasis gave me a tube (unsealed before anyone says anything) of her cream she gets on prescription and I put that on and it went within five days.

So erm.....yes you can just develop these things. I'm 44 and never had anything like it before.
