Ct scan of abdomen, chest and pelvic area

I have had gallstones and had MRI in dec. They have just looked at results(!) and can see a bulky pancreas. I was in hosp just before xmas with pancreatitis due to gallstone issues and consultant said probably that is cause but they want to do ct scan of an, chest and pelvic to rule other things out. Their manner really scared me, so just wondered if ct scan was normal for gallstone/pancreas type issues

Poor you, sounds painful and unpleasant as well as understandably worrying. All I know is that my mother had acute pancreatitis last summer and yes, she had CT scans of all the above.

When is your scan booked for?

mummynumnum · 09/02/2011 20:56

for the 17th. Doctors tone was a bit scary, but I am trying to reassure myself that the bout of pancreatitis just before xmas has caused the bulky pancreatitis.

Well, I would think 'bulky' could certainly include 'inflamed'. And I would also hope that if the doctor was that worried, your scan would be sooner? Poor you, waiting for tests is the pits - keep posting whenever you need to for handholding, and hopefully you'll get some reassurance soon. Pancreatitis takes a long, long time to settle down sometimes.

It has been a disaster from the start. 5 cancelled ops. One hospital admission an MRI scan that was forgotten about and when they do look they don't like what they see. I am freaked out also because it is 545 and someone said thats late and they must wanna squeeze you in. I know I am being paranoid, but...

Thanks for the support. My dh is upset and if I show him I am upset he will worry more!

Ah - well that makes sense, that kind of comment ('they must be trying to squeeze' etc) always hooks my paranoia Smile

I wouldn't take any notice of that bit, tbh - I think they're always having to 'squeeze people in' because scanners are in short supply. And with 5 cancelled ops behind you, they should jolly well be 'squeezing you in'!

I would talk to your dh, though...understandable wanting to protect each other, but if you can share the upset and worry it might be a lot easier on both of you. Its just hard not knowing what the problem actually IS - if there is one - and your minds are bound to be working overtime.

Another attack this morn and wAiting to see gp.

Yeah I had a ct scan for suspected kidney stones
I wouldnt worry about the time they've given you, a lot of appointments during the day are to coincide with clinics so the staff will be busy with that then, hospitals these days tend to try and use the equipment for as long as possible with staff working odd shifts
As I recall my scan was before 9am

IslandMoose · 10/02/2011 11:15

Agree with ratspeaker. I had a CT scan of my kidneys on Tuesday and my appointment was 08:30. I got there slightly early, and they were already doing other people!

Thats cool. Just saw GP and said if pancreas has been described as bulky on MRI then sounds like infection inside and may have to have gallbladder out with open surgery. Gulp!

Just been given buscopan and diclofenac sodium for gallstone attacks.

Good Smile Not about the attack, obviously, but for the less scary prognosis from GP!

mummynumnum · 10/02/2011 20:12

Just started my tablets and having a salad and seeing if I can actually get through eating without an attack!

Strangely the pain I am experiencing at the mo is under my left breast and not the right-is this more likely to be pancreas pain that gallbladder?

OP posts:
mummynumnum · 12/02/2011 09:52

Well eating at mo is a no no. Either causes vomit and pain and vomiting or just pain. Debating whether to wait it out till ct scan on 17th and op on 22nd or just walk into a and e Monday.

Go to A&E, definitely. My mother said her pancreatitis pain was in all sorts of places, but her main symptom was non stop vomiting - she couldn't eat or drink. If you can't drink water, go to A&E NOW! You don't want to dehydrate...you poor love, it sounds horrible. Good luck, xx

mummynumnum · 12/02/2011 12:56

Touch wood after vomiting everything yesterday I have been able to eat and drink today. Fingers crossed it will stay like this. If not, off to a and e I go!

OP posts:
mummynumnum · 13/02/2011 15:28

No. I have vomited after every meal except breakfast. Ct scan on 17th and op on 22nd. Can't decide whether to try and hold out till then or go to a and e in the morning. Have two children to think about as well.
