I've had the Implant since june last year, was on for 2 months

my GP then gave me a 3 month course of the pill, its stopped now and I've been on nearly 2 weeks now, i think I've been defeated lol.

gonna ask to have it taken out.

the point of this thread was has anyone had a similar experience to me, and if so what for of contraception worked afterwards??

any help would be obliged :)
xoxo

Arg! I'm getting one put in on Friday - don't tell me this!!! I've been on Micronor for 6 weeks and I was pissed off enough that my period lasted for 3 days longer than in normally does. I do feel heartened though that the practice nurse was shocked when I told her about some women on here who were complaining that they were made to keep it for 6/12 months even though they really wanted it out.

newbeemummy · 09/02/2011 16:52

I've had mine for just over year, and haven't had teh best experiance - non stop clotty horrible bleeds since I had it inserted, and nasty moods swings.

I do tend to just muddle on and DP accepts that it's not the normal me, but given I fell pg on the pill and the injection, this apparently works and we're planning to have it removed and TTC later this year so just plugging on with it.

TheChewyToffeeMum · 09/02/2011 16:56

I had the same non-stop bleeding but liked the effectiveness. In the end we (the family planning doc and I) decided to add the pill for bleeding control - a belt and braces approach!

I now have a Mirena (much maligned on mumsnet) and am very happy with it.

newbeemummy · 09/02/2011 16:59

and it's obviously affected my spelling too :)

I know my post was not much help, but just wanted to say you're not alone

QueenStromba · 09/02/2011 17:08

That's the main reason I'm getting it newbeemummy - I'm really paranoid about getting pregnant and given that it's more effective than sterilisation the implant seems like the best option. I know I'd have a major freak out if I was out when I should be taking my pill and I'd forgotten to take it with me. It almost happened once, I was running a bit late to meet my DP and our friend for the cinema and my alarm went off just as I was walking out the door. If I'd left when I was planning to I'd have been most of the way there and had to turn back and we'd have missed a fair chunk of the movie. I'd booked the tickets on my card so they wouldn't have been able to go in without me. Actually come to think of it the movie was Tron and I wish I had missed it.

QueenStromba · 09/02/2011 17:11

Hmm. Come to think of it the nurse did say that a third of women had no periods and a third had lighter ones. She didn't say what happened to the other third (I assumed at the time that most of them had no change). I barely got periods at all on Loestrin after a few months so I'm hoping I'll be one of the lucky ones!

DingALongCow · 09/02/2011 18:29

I had a year of irregular periods and then two years of no periods for months and then a little short light one, but I could never predict when it was going to be.

It worked in that I didnt get pregnant when I had it in. Also when I had it out and I wanted to get pregnant it took less than three months to conceive DS.

However I did find it made me put on a lot of weight/bloating and I went from a size 16 to a 20. In the last month of having the implant in when it was running down and the month after having it out I went down to a size 14. It also affected my emotions, I was anxious, nervous, angry and depressed. I found it very hard to be happy- it was like permanent PMT.

lospollos · 09/02/2011 21:18

Dingalong I know got heeeuugee and really grumpy too like depressed almost just felt crap.
ChewyToffee- i may ask about keeping pill

I think it depends on what implant you get.

I've had both (Implanon and Nexaplon) and had no problems with both but friends of mine have had issues with Implanon.

I would recommend speaking to a family planning doctor who is experienced in the implant so that you can make an informed decision

AlfalfaMum · 09/02/2011 22:36

Be extra careful now because my friend has just given birth to a beautiful, but unplanned, baby boy after getting pregnant immediately on stopping the implant - she had thought she wouldn't ovulate for at least a few months!

QueenStromba · 10/02/2011 03:35

AlfalfaMum: One of the selling points the practice nurse made when she was telling me about the implant was that your fertility comes back as soon as it is taken out - that shouldn't have been a surprise for her. The nurse told me that it was possible for me to have it taken out and get pregnant the same month.

lospollos · 10/02/2011 19:13

I rang up docs today

earliest appt. 23rd, AngryAngry

but still an appontment thing im gonna ask about trying to keep pill too

AlfalfaMum · 10/02/2011 22:25

Well, I think she has proven that QueenStromba :o
She didn't seem to be aware of that at the time - she can be forgetful though so possible she had been warned Hmm

lospolloshermanos · 19/02/2011 12:02

I've been 'off' for nigh on 2 weeks now! yay
