I'm 39 and for the last year for the first time in my life have been headachey. My dd is 3 1/2. But for the last week I've had the most awful headache of my whole life. It feels as though my brain wants to explode, it's pressure rather than pain. I can't think straight, I'm totally irritable and exhausted (want to close my eyes all the time). I got so worried I went to A&E at the weekend and they checked my bp (normal), blood sugar (ok), did a basic neurological test (i.e. could i touch their fingers etc.) and said it must be a nasty migraine. I've been back to my GP today as it's driving me crazy and he said it was most likely a tension headache. Has anyone anywhere suffered like this from a straightforward tension headache? I'm really feeling very worried. I've got no fever, feel a bit nauseous and my limbs are quite heavy.

To find a TMJ specialist, look in the Yellow Pages, it should say that they specailize. Just a word of warning tho, it may well be a private dentist, so check costs first.

How are you feeling today?

hi everyone, not been on this thread for a while well my headaches seemed to last just over a week and then I managed to get some rest bite, however they are back again exactly the same as I had previously described, I've been working out my dates and I think they may be connected with my period?? anyone else suffer similar??

how are you twik, so sorry to hear your no better x

I have similar headaches twik.

I'm on the pill and connected them to that and my pill free week. I think it's something to do with your hormones being released or somesuch thing (sorry I'm no medical expert)

Mine start on the tuesday after my first pill free day and then it lasts for 2-5 days and feels like this huge pressure on the top of my head. Then it usually either stops as af arrives or this month it was continuous, then comes agan with my first pill and then stops and am pretty headache free for the rest of the month. I've been taking Nurofen plus, but my pharmacist advised to save these for "special occasions" But without these it never really subsides. Sorry this has been rather long and rambly. HTH

Twik I have exactly the same thing. Have seen a chiropractor, jaw specialist, doctor, and dentist. Spent £100's on treatment including massage and acupuncture and nothing has helped. I have been told by a Jaw specialist that my Jaw popping is because of a scar in the jaw joint, the dentist said it could have been TMJ, the doctor said it was due to some trapped nerves in the neck, and the chiropractor (who I think is right) has diagnosed me with severe tension in the muscle which runs from your shoulder up your neck up over you ear and down the other side into your jaw. Had around 15-20 treatments of massage and 1 acupuncture so far and still have the same. Have just developed a 'tearing' noise when i look far right now which is worrying me slightly. Have been told if I didnt stop clicking my neck I would have arthritis in it by the time I was 35 (i'm 22) and that I am wearing out my jaw joint. Sorry for such a long post its just wonderful that I've finally found someone who has the same problem!

Twik if you have exactly what I have it will help (but also be really tender while you do it) if you find the sorest spot on your temples and massage it really hard or get your partner to do it so you can try and relax/breathe through it. Do you get times when your jaw feels REALLY tense on one side?

I am not a Mum but found these postings while searching about tension headaches.

I have had them for 4 months. Pain is essentially dull and is focused behind the bridge of the nose or behind the eyes. Sinus pain essentially. Have been to the doctor numerous times and not had much help. Also had a really sore neck and shoulders but presumed that was from the headache and tensing up that area. I have done Yoga and got rid of that now. Allergies may also exacerbate the situation (I have hayfever)and emotional stress. Interested to hear if anyone else has tried things that work for tension related headaches?

Also trying facial Yoga as I think that may reduce muscle contraction.

I sympathise with everyone who suffers because people think you are going crazy when your'e not!!

i have been getting headaches like you describe for 2 years now. i was sent for an xray, had lots of blood tests and am just waiting for a ct scan. i have been told its nothing to worry about and they are just doing it as a precaution. i have tried every pain killer they could give me and then the other day it was so bad i couldnt walk. my mum went into the chemist and got me anidin capules for tension headaches etc and it was gone in the space of 10 mins. you really should give them a go
