Denplan

Just looking for some advice here. I need a fair amount of dental work (couple of fillings, probably a crown - at least). I know I should have dealt with this a while ago, but didn't ... Blush

Anyway, have looked at NHS, but was also considering Denplan - Do they take patients who need a lot of work? I don't mind big monthly payments but can't afford to shell out the HUGE payment I'd have to pay in one go. Anyone have any advice?

Thanks in advance!

To be accepted onto denplan you must be "dentally fit" ie have no outstanding treatment. When I worked in the outside world (I'm an army dentist now) we would insist people were brought up to scratch privately then taken onto denplan. We could exclude certain teeth though so if it's a tooth that needs lots and lots of work, you could say you didn't want that taken on by denplan but if anything happened you would need to pay privately.

Your denplan subscription is determined by the amount and type of work you have in your mouth (ie 4 fillings is one category, 15 crowns is a much higher cat)
Hope that makes sense.

PS Lots of dentists will take installments on private work but believe it or not, they have to pay an awful lot of money to some organisation or other to be able to offer credit so not all of them do this.

Don't talk to me about dentists. I paid £300 for some root canal work on a tooth two days before Xmas , and when I went back for the second installment of root canal work three weeks later he said the tooth had cracked completely in two leaving him no choice but to extract it and charged me another couple of hundred. Had I not been in such shock I would have queried why the root canal work was ever done in.....

I am now awaiting the suggestion of a tooth implant for a couple of THOUSAND which I will be refusing.

Why did you need root canal work?

Darn it. I strongly suspected that would be the case. NHS for me then.
