Am thinking of combining elements of Weight Watchers and the G.I concept of high/low G.I foods-could it work?

I would think so. I have lost over 6 stone following the GI diet.

piffle · 13/10/2005 11:30

yes it would! I use the GI as the basis for almost 95% of our cooking and meals and I've lost half a stone, which has been really easy.
The other 5% is booze LOL thats dp's biggest vice, I've sorted mine out and watched the scales drop as a result, I took my time incorporating main meals that were GI that I liked and then changed breads, spreads, lunches and snacks afterwards- after 6 mths I truly feel confident about picking whats GI and whats not.

Can either of you recommend a good book?

BTW-if you put your names together-"Piffle and Puff"-would make a great sounding childrens book,eh?

GI diet has changed our families eating habits for good. I've lost 3 stone since January without much effort, honest! DH has lost about a stone and the kids are learning about healthy food.

Don't know anything about ww. But I can recommend the GI diet highly.

p.s. most of my inspiration comes from Puff but she doesn't know it!

Dropinthecauldron · 13/10/2005 12:48

Drop, I'll post some stuff this evening when I have a bit more time.

MMM - lovely to be inspiring others, thank you . You have done very well yourself!

Have you forgot me Puff?

Hi Drop, sorry - didn't look at "threads I'm on" - essential now threads move so fast on mnet!

The books I'd recommend are:

Anthony Worral Thompson - GI Diet

Helen Forster - Easy GI Diet

Both have yummy recipes, Helen Forster's gives you whole eating plans if you want to follow something to the letter.

There's also a good little pocket GI Diet book (published by Collins I think) which I found in WH Smith - the listings for GI values of different foods are a good guide. It's about £4.00 iirc.

There is a glycaemic index on the web - I can't seem to get links to work at the mo, but I have done a link on Mumsnet to it before on one of the older GI threads. You might need to search under my old name PuffTheMagicDragon to find it. That can be quite helpful too.

Well, today is GI DAY! Before I had the chance to order,my mother sent me "The GI Plan-Lose weight forever" by Azmina Govingji and Nina Puddefoot.
Have almost finished reading it and plan to start today-was already loving multiseeded bread-really can't be bothered with anything else-am off to find some Bagladeshi rice today and giving it my best shot.

Good luck!
