Help! Pain in chest

Madigan · 07/02/2011 22:08

I have suddenly developed a pain high up in my chest, fairly central (a bit towards the right). It suddenly appeared this morning, and has been niggling all day, but now it is getting worse. I get a sharp shooting pain in this one specific point when I breathe or move. What on earth could it be?

I have been suffering with sinusitis for the past 4 days, but I do not see how it can be related.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Call an ambulance! It doesn't matter what it turns out to be, get off here and call an ambulance.

Hi..don't have much great advice but didn't want to leave you alone Smile
Could it maybe be due to a muscle strain..have you had a cough or anything lately that could have caused a pull? The other thing is reflux..sometimes this is really uncomfortable to.
Sorry i am not much help but hopefully someone will be along with better advice soon.
All i would say..is if it gets any worse or you are unsure at all go and get it checked. Better safe than sorry Smile

I had similar last week. Doc said either a blood clot in the lung (very serious), inflammation of the cartilage between the ribs (usually linked to a virus) or a pulled intercostal muscle (very painful). She said unlikely to be a heart attack as that would feel like a 'crushing' pain in the centre

Given you don't know what it is, i would certainly advise getting checked out as soon as possible. I was quickly checked for blood oxygen saturation levels and heart and lung function. Doesn't take long but worth the peace of mind IMO

Good luck Smile

I had something similar last year which was probably gallbladder related. You do need to get yourself checked out right away, I rang the emergency doctor and was seen quickly at a local hospital.

Thank you for all the advice - I was starting to panic, but the pain has all but disappeared now and I am convinced that it was a muscular strain ......... feel well otherwise.
Will go to doc just to be sure.
