sigh, vaginal prolapse

I've just discovered I have a slight vaginal prolapse.

After flapping around for an hour going 'eugh eugh eugh' I'm now ready to find out more.

GP seems to think it was a normal part of being pg for the third time, but do I have to live with it?

Anyone recovered?

Can you still have sex? (This is largely a hypothetical question at the moment.)

Or shall I follow my first instincts and lock myself in a cupboard for the rest of my life?

small bump in case anyone fancies talking about this sort of thing over lunch. As you would.

Sagpuss I'll be interested to hear what people say. I have a slight vaginal prolapse - cervix is only about 1.5-2 inches in - but haven't been as brave as you and visited the GP yet so don't have much practical advice to offer.

I have done quite a bit of internet researching and know that it is possible to improve some prolapses - bladder, rectum - with physiotherapy where the pelvic floor is weak and can be strengthened.

In my case, my uterus/cervix has dropped and it seems to be unlikely that it can be improved with anything except surgery. You'll see quite a few threads on here about prolapse repairs.

As to sex, TBH I find it uncomfortable but I'm not sure whether that's the prolapse or just general post-childbirth issues crossed with extreme anxiety about the prolapse. DH seems to think all feels normal though, and apparently the prolapse moves back when you are horizontal and/or tends to get pushed out of the way during intercourse.

So if you do find out any more, please let me know!!

Dont panic!! I had a slight prolapse after DS1, after I stopped BF at around 6 months it "fixed" itself. When I was around 8-10weeks pg with DD1 it re-occurred, dont laugh but I rang our local hospital in a state of panic to talk to a midwife, as was concerned the baby would fall through my cervix, which was low....oh how they must have laughed. No-one seemed too concerned, and after DD was born, again after a few months it "fixed" itself with no lasting ill effects. A MW told me that all the ligaments etc soften with pregnancy and BF hormones so it makes everything softer, everything often tightens back up again once all the hormones have left your system. You dont say how pg you are, but hope this helps a bit, all is not lost.....hopefully Smile

fiestabelle it fixed itself? Music to my ears, thank you. I was imagining hours of pelvic floor exercise a day at least.

I've spent today as clenched as possible but I don't think I can keep that up for another 10 weeks or however long it is until the babies arrive. Not least because people will wonder why I have such a strange expression.

Sorry for delay in responding - it did "fix itself", I was pretty devestated when it came back after first prgnancy, and honestly thought I would need an op after DD was born, but she is now 12 months and no problems at all. If you have 10 weeks to go think the baby weighing on your nether regions is probably not helping. It is horrible tho, constantly felt "not right" and tho it wasnt painful, I felt uncomfortable the whole time, totally fine now, hope this is the same for you, good luck with baby when time comes.
